On My Way ...
It is 11:22 pm, and I'm due at the airport at 4:00 am. I'm flying to Austin to record "Drunk at the Funeral" and it's all thanks to you.
I've made and checked off lists of things to do. I've made charts, drawn pictures, and practiced myself bloody. My suitcase is packed! The music is alive and well in my head, and now it's time to coax it out into the world.
And I'm trying to remember Austin: Lamar, Airport, Koenig, 38th, 45th, North Loop. Half-Price Books, H.E.B., Alpha Music. Emo's, Carousel, Hole In the Wall, Ginny's, La La's, Continental, and the long-departed Liberty Lunch. Points and lines.
26th is Dean Keaton, or Deen Keaton, depending on where you are. Manor curves around how? I'm staying around 51st, and recording on East 14th. I've been homesick for someplace green, and I'm afraid it's all burned up by drought and fire. I plan to take a drive to Bastrop to see what happened out there. I'll have to avoid Lockhart, though, because I'm vegan now. Lockhart! It won't be easy.
I'm bringing music I've worked harder on than any other music I've ever written. I don't know how being immersed in my old home town will move into the sound, but I'm sure it will. I'll be in good hands, recording with musicians that I both admire and count as close friends.
This is a maudlin update! It's a little heavy for me over here! I haven't been back in a long time. And I am completely inside out trying to remember everything I'm forgetting.
All signs point to this album being a powerful piece of beauty, and it's all due to you. If not for your support, I'd be sitting here wondering what to do with myself. But now, well, I'm making all this music. And I'm really stressed! But it will be all right.
I'll be blogging heavy throughout, so check in to www.chrisblackmusic.com periodically, and the Facebook, and the Twitter.
I couldn't find a likely venue with a house piano, but I'd still like to have a little party, so Central Texas backers should keep and ear peeled for an update soon. I'm thinking the Hole in the Wall or the Poodle Dog, maybe along Wednesday or Friday or Saturday. I'd love to get together and shake your hands and thank you in person.
Okay, it's nearly midnight now. I am SCREWED for sleep. Why did I book that early flight???
See you soon.
