What is comedy? What makes something funny? How many types of poop can there POSSIBLY be? TBOC answers it all.
Here's my basic unadulterated comic book presentation: Looking at all the weird, chic, hip, geeky, trashy, badly drawn, cliche ridden comic book projects out there, my goal in this audacious book runs counter to the ultimate fanboy's fancy: knowledge. The Book on Comedy is everything you ever wanted to know about comedy in general... and possibly even more. What is comedy? What makes something funny? How many different types of poop can there POSSIBLY be? These intriguing questions are answered in a comic (no pun intended) book defining humor's many styles and devices.
After explaining what comedy is, a majority of the book functions as kind of an encyclopedia of comedic styles and devices. This is not a joke book, this is not a how to be funny book, I won't even proclaim that it's funny. What this book does provide is knowledge and understanding of comedy. In the end, you'll feel like you'll have a better theoretical understanding why things are funny and how it works.
The primary goal of this project is to gather enough funding for a brand new physical bulk print run of this book. Admittedly, the book is already available via print on demand at e-retailer Lulu, but the rewards are exclusive to this new printing. Every printer prints a different quality and hopefully, this will be better. This is not a reselling of preexisting stock and has never been printed in bulk before. The rewards make this a unique limited time offer as the production of this book is already completed. It took me six months of unpaid nonstop labor to draw. It consists of 338 pages, black and white, standard comic book dimensions. I made this as a labor of love (for fame and fortune... things I'll never get) in 2008. It has been self published but never corporately published. I don't feel like it has gotten the attention it deserved so I'm kickstarting to get more brand new printings of it out there. I don't think I'll ever make a book like this again. Thanks for reading and thank you for your support.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
This isn't my first kickstarting attempt, so I know the biggest challenge is getting funded. After that, the hardest part would be the logistics of accounting, printing books, and mailing it out to everybody in a timely manner. I've never handled this process personally on a mass scale and don't even have a mass printer lined up. So it will take time to figure that out. A lot of it depends on how many people want the books. All rewards will be fulfilled, but scheduling out them can be unpredictable. Some people will get theirs very soon and others may get theirs later. All the reward deadlines should be taken with a grain of salt. But, if completely funded, I will get on fulfilling these orders as soon as I possibly can.
