About this project
I am in the final stages of finishing a 54 minute personal doc, SPERM DONOR X, that looks at four diverse women, including myself, as we go on a trip we never imagined-- having kids solo using donor sperm. Although we all struggle with the decision, the truth is right now in this country only 6% of kids will grow up in a traditional family, meaning two straight people who get married, have kids and don't separate. The doc (which was cut on a deferral by Academy Award nominee Jim Klein because he believed so strongly in it) takes the viewer on an intimate journey from the bizarreness of picking the genetic material of your child over the Internet to the creation of joyous alternative families of both adopted and biological children. On the way, it looks at changing paradigms of why people are getting married and what makes a family.
The project has been endorsed by Jane Mattes, head of single mothers by choice, and Mikki Morrissette, head of Choice Moms, but we still need to raise the last finishing funds to do a color correct and license the archival footage. Please help us get this project out into the world by giving what you can! Many thanks!

I've been writing and directing documentaries and dramas for 20 years now; many centering on women's lives. My life's goal is to create complex, realistic portraits that challenge mainstream stereotypes and work to improve lives.
I started my career at WNYC-TV where I produced a half-hour program on women community organizers working to save the South Bronx. I then went on to write and direct SEPARATE SKIN, an award-winning drama that was distributed by Women Make Movies and a full-length documentary about working mothers, THE BEST OF BOTH. My dramatic feature film, RISK, premiered in competition at the Sundance and had a theatrical, as well as a wide video and international release. I went on to direct the documentary STILL DOING IT:The Intimate Lives of Women Over 65 (2004) which premiered at SXSW and has been broadcast in fifteen countries worldwide.
In 1995, I started Mind's Eye Productions dedicated to producing cutting edge educational films. DEALING WITH TEEN DATING ABUSE: Matters Of Choice received a CINE Golden Eagle. Last year Mind's Eye produced an on-line video exploring campus suicide for the New York Times Magazine.
