Is it really un-dammed?
I am so appreciative of all your support for Where the Yellowstone Goes. It's really been amazing to see the pledges pouring in.
We have now passed the 50% mark in our fundraising goal, which means we have two weeks to raise the other half. If we don't, no one gets charged and our fundraising efforts = $0.00.
I am so anxious for all of you to hear the stories we encountered on the Yellowstone River. It is one of those life changing experiences. For all of us, we saw and felt what a wild river is like, but we also saw the threats to this river and its surroundings. We saw what we as humans are doing to our sacred waterways. It's not just the Yellowstone River. It's all rivers and it goes way beyond rivers, too. Our current human condition is very dependent on many natural resources.
Conventional wisdom says the Yellowstone River is un-dammed. But is it really? We had several "diversion dams" we had to cross during the float and I've included a photo here of one of those. These dams are used for irrigation and often reek havoc on native fish populations. We met a man who singlehandedly created a fish passage around one of these diversion dams after watching thousands of fish die in irrigated lands for decades. Roger Muggli's (2nd photo) story will blow you away and from it you'll learn that each of us has the ability to fix problems and cause change. It's powerful. There's no stopping the demand we'll put on our natural resources, but Roger's story will help illustrate ways we can strike an adequate balance.
This film isn't just about the environment or some random river up in Montana. It's about each of us and through the people we meet along the way, it uncovers things we might all find value in as we travel our own life's river.
Please encourage others to help our Kickstarter campaign. The money we raise will allow us to play in theaters all over the country. Like Roger, you can help create a passage that will allow many more people to learn from this film's stories.
Thanks so much for your help.
