Mind, Body & Soil, Food Swap, Barn Dance, Summer BBQ & Weekly Volunteering on the farm!

Update #10 · Jul 13, 2011 · comment

July 13, 2011

Dear Tools to Till Tilian Backers,

The farm is growing!  (And not just vegetables) The farmers are plowing more acreage, and the pigs, ducks, goats and chickens are aging from tiny tots to sprightly adolescents. We also have three wonderful interns: Emily, our volunteer coordinator, Michelle, our development assistant and party planner, and Tim, our social media manager.  AND, volunteers! Folks are joining us weekly to weed, plant flowers and share a potluck meal. These folks, along with the farmers, advisory team and steering committee are promoting the great work of the farm and its potential for long-term success.

Please join us as we continue to invest in our food shed!  There are 4 great events coming up that you don’t want to miss, as well as our weekly volunteer opportunity:

·      7/15/11: Mind, Body & Soil

o   6:30PM ~ Community yoga with Ana (a2yoga.net)

o   8PM-? ~ Delicious local food, music, and bonfire under the full moon

o   Bring $11+, a yoga mat, an appetite for delicious food, your own mug for beer or ginger tea, a camp chair, and bug spray

*If you planned to pick up your t-shirt on July 16, and are unable to join us on the 15th or 17th, please email tilianfdc@gmail.com, and we will be sure to meet you at the barn!*

·      7/17/11: Real Good Food Swap (Sunday, July 17)

o   3-5PM ~ Bring home-canned food to swap!

·      7/30/11: Barn Concert & Dance (Saturday, July 30) @ Barry’s Barn (11300 Island Lake Road in Dexter)

o   6PM- Join us for local music, refreshments & a rockin’ good time!

·      8/20/11: Mid-Summer All Farm BBQ

o   4-6PM Tilian’s first three farms: Green Things, Bending Sickle & Seeley

o   6-8PM Enjoy a farm fresh meal, conversation & a beautiful evening with friends of Tilian

o   Tickets are $20, unless this was your kickstarter reward!; all are welcome! (email tilianfdc@gmail.com to reserve your seat!)

·      Volunteer Every Monday through Harvest!

o   10:30Am-12:30PM ~ Bring sunscreen a simple dish to pass at lunch time, or pack your own lunch!

o   5-9PM ~ we will work the farm for a few hours and then break for a potluck dinner.  Bring bug spray & a simple dish to pass, and your own place setting.

A Bard Sings Out (A Night of Poetry & Song, this Saturday!)

Update #9 · Jun 6, 2011 · comment

Hello Friends of Tilian!

Summer weather has arrived & the fields are producing bundles of radishes & spring onions for CSA members & salad greens already being sold at the People's Food Co-op! Things are moving quickly at the farm.  We have brought on several consistent volunteers helping with everything from weeding to volunteer coordination to web design.

Now we have a blog up with a summer calendar including events Saturday night!:

Please join us on June 11 from 4-6 PM for a Tour of the Tilian Farm Development Center ($5 donation suggested).

And at 6PM for "A Bard Sings Out, a night of poetry & song" to raise support for this sustainable farm in your community!
($5-10 suggested donation). This event is hosted by our own livestock farmer, Benjamin Fidler!

CLICK HERE for more information about Saturday!

Additionally, you can now "like" us on Facebook!  Check it Out Here!

Hope to see you soon at the farm!
