Skin Folk: the teaser trailer is a three minute composited montage introducing us to the supernatural world of New Orleans (post Hurricane Katrina and BP oil spill disaster) through a mix of constructed and archival news footage and via the introduction of a mysterious being called the Walkabout Woman. This “woman”, abused and discarded to the oceans eons earlier, who carries within her body the power of nature itself, emerges from the murky and polluted waters of the Gulf Coast, soaking in a ruined dress of seaweed and oil, is invisible to the material world. She traverses the desolate streets and dark alleyways of New Orleans, walking endlessly and unnoticed, but seeing all. She has been forced awake and now seeks to bring order to the chaos of the city, especially to those who use their unchecked power or fantastical talents for their own personal gain.

This teaser trailer will serve as an introduction to a feature length anthology horror film, currently in development, adapted from the work of the Caribbean-Canadian SF writer, Nalo Hopkinson by producer and director, M. Asli Dukan. The teaser trailer will be shot in HD, on location and on greenscreen and will use voice over, music, graphics and will include digital compositing and visual effects, to integrate the Walkabout Woman character into archival news footage of both disasters. The producer/director, M. Asli Dukan is collaborating on this teaser trailer with many other talented and acclaimed artists in their field, including Miguel Jerez and Andrea Williams (award winning filmmakers), Olive Demetrius (cinematographer), Joanne Petit-Frere (designer and stylist), Marisha Roxanne Scott (make-up artist) and an award winning, international SAG actress.

The funds that are raised will be used to pay for the artistic, technical and logistical aspects of the production of the teaser trailer, including for wardrobe, hair, make-up, equipment, location fees, craft services, permits, and insurance. The artists collaborating on this project are donating their talents, skills, time and energy because they believe in the project and its unique, vision of the world. Eventually this teaser trailer will be used in a package to exhibit the talents and skills of the collaborators and to raise funds for the feature length anthology horror film, Skin Folk.
