We've launched an exciting new project of our own! Introducing the Kickstarter app for iPhone!

Funded! This project successfully raised its funding goal on January 7.

Now you can store each player's pieces in color-coordinated baggies!

End-of-Campaign Note

Please look at the upper-right corner of the page: if it is before 2PM EST on Monday, January 7th, then you can still pledge and help us make more stretch goals!  If the project has ended, please visit http://www.boardgamestorage.com/, I may be able to squeeze you in after the campaign ends, and eventually I hope to offer direct orders, but that would be after all backers have been shipped their rewards.  In addition, out of respect to the great backers who helped me on this endeavor, pricing will be higher if and when I do sell direct.

Overiew

Do you love board games? Do you love organizing them for quick setup, quick clean-up, and to avoid losing pieces? Do you love using zip-lock baggies? Do you ever wonder which pieces go into which baggie at the end of the game?  Do you like having each players' pieces in their own bag so you can leave the pieces you don't need in the box?

If you answered "Yes" to any of those questions, then you are like me and you will love this project. Based on your donation, you will receive a collection of colored, zip-lock baggies for your game storage needs. When you set up your game, players can simply select their player by choosing one of the colored baggies. Forget your color during the game? Just look down to remind yourself. Ready to put it all away? You'll already know where your pieces belong.

Details

You may pledge and receive up to 10 "sets" of baggies.  Each "set" contains 20 each of red/blue/green/yellow, 10 each of white/black, 5 each of purple/orange, and 3 each of pink/brown/grey.  So in total, each "set" contains exactly 119 baggies.

The bags will be 2mil thick and approximately 4" x 6" in internal size (10.2x15.2cm).  I find this is enough to fit the player pieces and, if desired, player-specific reference cards for almost every game.  I determined that about 80% of the top 50 euro-games have red, blue, and/or green players; 65% have yellow; 35% have white and/or black; and 20% have purple and/or orange. You will notice these are the approximate ratio offered in each "set" of baggies.

Because we met a stretch goal, all baggies are now upgraded to 4"x6".  Some gamers may prefer smaller 3"x5" baggies, or perhaps, a mix of the two sizes.  When you receive your post-campaign backer survey, you will have the option to select "all 4x6", "all 3x5", or "half-and-half".  This will apply only to blue/green/yellow/red/black/white/pink/brown and will not apply to purple, orange, and grey (these three colors will only be 4"x6").  I do have a final (tentative) stretch goal, described below, that could give you more options if we make it that far.

I have used colored baggies for years (in limited colors) and absolutely love them. Unfortunately, some popular colors need to be custom-ordered in extremely large quantities which means without Kickstarter this is likely never to become a reality.  Thanks in advance for your support!

Stretch Goals

If we get enough funding I will automatically upgrade every backer who is receiving "sets' with the following:

  • (ACHIEVED!) Exceed $7,000 in funding: all backers get brown baggies as well (each "set" will now include three brown baggies).  Note that these will be slightly thicker at 3mil, but honestly I don't think it is noticeable.
  • (ACHIEVED!) Exceed $8,000 in funding: all backers get pink baggies as well (each "set" will now include three pink baggies).  Note that these will be very transparent unlike the rest of the bags which will be opaque.
  • (ACHIEVED!) Exceed $10,000 in funding: upgrade all baggies to 4" x 6" (10.2x15.2cm).
  • (ACHIEVED!) Exceed $13,000 in funding: all backers get grey baggies as well (each "set" will now include three grey baggies).
  • Exceed approx. $20k: I may be able to offer a choice of 3"x5", 4"x6", or half-and-half in every color except grey, but I can't commit to this before the campaign ends, sorry!

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

I am relying on one or two manufacturers to provide baggies of the same quality as the samples they have provided me but in custom colors. Industry standard tolerances are +/- 1/4" on the size of the baggies, so some bags could end up being slightly smaller than other bags. My delivery schedule is also completely dependent on the manufacturer delivering on time.

FAQ

  • There is a bit of concern over this and it is something that I will address when we get closer to the goal. I plan to do a survey at that time to help gauge the overall interest of the supporters we have at that time.  The big problem is that (unless we get somewhere in the $15k to $20k range) I can only order one size of purple and orange.  So the easiest solution is to upgrade everything to 4x6 (some people would prefer this size) but then people that prefer 3x5 will get only the larger size.  Another option is to stick with one size for purple/orange, and then allow each backer to specify which size baggies they want for the rest of the colors (all 3x5, all 4x6, or half and half).

  • They will be 2mil thick which is the standard thickness of the nicer baggies you see in board gaming (e.g. when they provide baggies specifically for storing your game pieces).  I notice that they often times ship game components in really thin baggies that break almost the first time you open them: these baggies are better quality than that.  I have been using these for several years (spread across a few hundred games) and have not had any break or tear.
