About this project

We want your help in getting an outdoor ping pong table in Gulick Park because it will help inject life into this long-neglected city park that we're working to restore. There's handball and basketball and we think an outdoor ping pong table will be a great addition.

The Lower East Side has as diverse a community as anywhere in the world and Gulick Park is a place where every age, gender and ethnic group can connect - what better way than through ping pong?

The funds will be used for the purchase and installation of the table - any extra money raised will go to maintenance of the table and a supply of extra paddles and balls.

All donations are tax-deductible (less the value of goods or services received). All donors will receive an acknowledgment from the Lower East Side Ecology Center, /www.lesecologycenter.org, the fiscal sponsor of the Friends of Gulick Park.

Special thanks to Ben Smyth at www.grandopening.org for the video and his ping pong pied piperdom on the LES.

Thanks to Alan Good, founder of www.hengetables.com for his support of this venture.

We're a group of Lower East Side volunteers who decided to get our local park fixed up. After having most of the trees and benches removed, Gulick Park, named after the real guy behind the invention of basketball and the Campfire Girls, started to resemble an abandoned lot. We've spend the past year planting bushes, trees and bulbs, painting, and lobbying elected officials and are well on our way to making the park a greener, more vibrant spot under the gritty Willy B bridge. Check us out at www.gulickpark.org.
