About this project
I'm Paul Silveria, I play old time music for kids and families as Professor Banjo. Many of the songs that I play have come down to us from earlier generations, and are continuing to be passed down to the next. Over the years, I've gotten to know some talented and enthusiastic young musicians. I've invited some of them (and their families) to join me on my next album to showcase this cross-generational tradition. Plus playing with kids is just plain fun!
Recording this project is a bigger undertaking than I've done before. The money I raise here will go toward:
*The cost of printing.
*The cost of licensing a few cover songs.
*Studio time - I'm recording in a professional studio for the first time, and am scheduling extra sessions to record with Riley Calcagno - a 13 year old Seattle fiddler, Small Time Stringband - a family band from Seattle featuring 8 year old Eli and 12 year old Oliver, and Fiddlie-I-Ay - an Olympia family band featuring 7 year old Ruby and 10 year old Maggie.
*Money raised in excess of our goal will go toward a CD release tour, and a future Professor Banjo recording.

Paul is an old-time banjo player who covers a wide range of Americana: mountain ballads, country blues, jug band tunes, novelty songs, and originals too. Most notably he plays for kids and their banjo-loving parents as Professor Banjo in a show that features sing-a-longs, dancing games, stories and more! Paul also calls traditional Square Dances with live music. His energetic delivery, fun figures, and beginner-friendly teaching have made him a regional favorite.
As well as playing music, Paul was worked as a pre-school teacher, staff member at a democratic K-12, and developmental disabilities support worker and advocate.
