Update #4: LOVETOWN PA hits the streets

Posted on May 12, 2010

Hi Everyone. I want to let you all know that we made our first trip to Philadelphia May 1-4 and had a great start to the project. The response from the people we met was very positive and welcoming. Several people expressed how happy they were to see an art project in their often neglected neighborhoods. We are planning to go back May 28-30 to continue on our way.

I also want to say thank you to those that have supported the project, even though our funding attempt here on Kickstarter was unsuccessful. The checks I have been receiving have been a great help, and your rewards will be sent after the project is completed. There is much left to do, and much left to pay for, so if any of you would still like to send in your support, please know that it is still needed and would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Update #3: WHAT NOW?

Posted on March 16, 2010

Some of you may be wondering what will happen to LOVETOWN PA now that the deadline has passed and funding was unsuccessful. Some of you have been asking if you can still support the project. The good news is I am going ahead with the project and you most certainly can support it. The same great rewards are available, we'll just handle the transaction like they used to in the old days: you send me a check, and I send you cool stuff.

I understand the reason for the all-or-nothing model Kickstarter uses, and I think it is a good idea, avoiding partially funded projects that may not be completed. I want you to know that I am committed to completing this project and would be so happy to see many, if not all of you, join me in this effort and redirect your support in this way.

Here is the address:

Please specify the reward you would like. Also, please include your email address, as well as shipping address if you are receiving a reward.

Thank you for your continued support.

Update #2: Thank you all for your support.

Posted on March 13, 2010

Sadly, we did not reach our goal. I am disappointed, but hoping to go ahead with the project somehow. I guess the silver lining is I don't have to put on a Rocky sweatsuit and run up the Art Museum steps, although I was kind of looking forward to that. I want to thank you all for your generosity and willingness to support this project. It always made my day when I saw a new backer added to the list.

Please check my website, http://www.lovetownpa.com , for news about the project. It may take a couple weeks to figure out my "plan B", so check back in around the beginning of April to see what's happening. I may make some of the rewards available for purchase at some point, so you may get a second chance on those if you are interested.

Thank you

Gene

Funding Unsuccessful

This project reached the deadline without achieving its funding goal on March 12, 2010.

Pledge $25 or more

DVD copy of LOVETOWN PA documentary by Johnny Gerhart and Philip Armand. Their film Manhattan Measure was selected by eight film festivals and well received around the country. I know you're not going to be disappointed with this entry-level reward. Pick one up for a friend while you're at it.

Pledge $50 or more

Set of four mini-letters: L-O-V-E. These are smaller versions (4" X 4") of the letters used in the project. They look great on a shelf or a desk. Stack them Robert Indiana style if you like. You will be the envy of all your friends. Then you can remind them that love does not envy and make them feel even worse.

Pledge $75 or more

Set of four mini-letters (4" X 4"): L-O-V-E, and DVD. Let's call this the mini-love combo.

Signed photograph from the project by Alicia Hansen. This will be an image available only to Kickstarter supporters. If you know Alicia's work, you know you're not going to go wrong with this reward. If you don't know her work, visit aliciahansen.com and check out her portfolio.

Pledge $200 or more

Set of four letters: L-O-V-E. These are the full-size version (12" X 12" each), made from reclaimed scrap wood. The Beatles said it's all you need. I think those guys were onto something.

Pledge $1,000 or more

Collage of entire text, made from 1" X 1" squares of paper with the letters punched out. Very colorful. About 4' X 3'. I am working on one and will post an image on lovetownpa.com when it is finished.

Pledge $6,000 or more

Entire text in the 4" blocks. That's 1267 blocks. Line them up around the house, stack them on the floor, hang them on the wall. It's 140 square feet of art, my friend. Sweet!

Pledge $10,000 or more

I have added a very special reward for one very special backer. The entire set of letters. Yes, the actual letters used in the project, can be yours for only $10,000 (delivery and installation not included). So if you happen to have a wall about 12 feet high and 106 feet long and you are looking for just the right piece of art to put on it, look no further. Not only would you be funding a huge chunk of this project, but you would also be solving a post-project storage problem for me. This is truly one-of-a-kind, and so are you if you choose this reward.
