About this project
Willywaw is a very small design studio in Narragansett, Rhode Island. We create handmade, screen printed textiles and prints in a range of products that are inspired by nature. We print in small batches, hand mix our inks and use organic cotton, hemp canvas and natural linens. Ashley Van Etten is the owner, illustrator, designer and seamstress behind all the work.
This past spring we moved the studio into an amazing space, signed a three year lease, and have been working non-stop ever since. We've been patiently growing our cliental, holding off on press releases and wholesale inquiries while we get things in order. The new year marks the next step forward for us and we want to grow!
With your help we’ll be able to upgrade equipment, increase production and take the next step in manufacturing. While I would love to sew and print every item as I do now, my passion is illustration and design and that's where I need to focus my attention. I also need more time to run the business. From our home grown roots, selling at our local organic farmers' market and on Etsy, to the desire to manufacture locally we are committed to being part of the handmade economy. New England still has a small textile industry which is steeped in tradition and we would love to be a part of it's resurgence.
With funding from this kickstarter project I’ll purchase an industrial sewing machine, serger and an industrial iron. I’ll be able to produce exceptionally well-made products faster, bring in help, and keep up with demand as I transition my time back to the drawing table to create even more interesting and beautiful multi-colored prints and products.
Any money raised beyond the funding goal will be used for printing equipment, work tables, and bigger screens. Thank you for checking out my Kickstarter project and I appreciate your support!

I live on a salt marsh river, just a short paddle to the sea, where my husband and I spend much of our time exploring the coast. I am the owner of Willywaw, a design studio in Narragansett, Rhode Island. Named after the ferocious arctic winds that sweep down coastal mountains and blow onto the ocean, Willywaw embodies nature and inspires my work.
I have a background in illustration, fine art and clothing design. Most of my work is screen printed onto organic and natural textiles. I also continue to paint and illustrate and hope to expand my screen printing to include multi-colored, limited edition prints. I sell my work on Etsy, through the studio and at our local farmers’ market.
