Still Alive, Still At It

Update #46 · Jul 11, 2012 · 24 comments

My, there's a lot to do yet. But the Ogre grinds on.

We just got the theoretically-final die test, the "if they can do this, they can do anything" one, back from the printers. They did it!

We have the final box size from the printers: 6.75" deep.

Here's the final version of Counter Sheet A1 - this is a 4.4 meg PDF, so don't click that link unless you have the bandwidth for it!

I just supported Guy Himber's Steampunk Heroes project, for five good reasons. It is (1) steampunk, (2) gaming, (3) space-themed - see the card backs! (4) LEGO-inspired, and (5) amazing. It's already hit its minimum for funding, so it will definitely happen, but there are some interesting stretch goals, and you want these cards.

- Steve Jackson

looks great. Please post others as they are finalized or near finalized. The more eyes on them the better to eliminate any easy to correct glitches/misprints etc.

I am disappointed to see, days later, that there is no resolution yet. Crossing my fingers.

PS - in local news, we laid out all four of the GEV ("advanced") maps and let them boggle our minds for a bit. Boggle, boggle. Big.

Leslie - 24x20, so you better not skimp on the suitcase.

What's interesting about Steampunk Heroes is that if you go to your backer history it still shows it as being pledged to.

I think David's probably right, but I'd like to think that perhaps simply getting a mention in an Ogre Designer's Edition update is akin to being slashdotted, and Steampunk Heros was overwhelmed by demand! :-)

I'm guessing LEGO found out about it and slapped a whopping big Cease and Desist order on the Kickstarter and/or guy!

      Looks great!

On a sort of related note: what happened to Steampunk Heroes? I was backing it based on this update - thought it looked great - but now when I click on related emails from Kickstarter, it says "this project no longer available" and I can't find it on the search engine. Anyone know why?

      Awesome! These look really nice.

Any chance though that the unit images on all the counter sheets could be released as individual photoshop/image files? I ask as it'd be nice to have the graphics available to do various utilities to support the game, or the upcoming computer game, or use as avatars on forums or banners, etc.

Sponsorship at this level will improve the rulebook by letting us hire a fantastic illustrator to do some character images. The $335 level . . . PLUS our artist, working from your photo, will put you into rulebook illustrations, and your name will appear in the credits. Depending on your own look and your preferences, you might be an officer, a trooper, a tanker, a refugee, a civilian leader, a technician . . . (Okay, at this level we will ship your game anywhere.)

You are sponsoring a whole 8" x 10” counter sheet, which will go into every copy of the game. We’ll work with you to determine what goes on the sheet and how it will be colored. The unit design will have to fit Ogre canon (no clown faces on the Superheavy Tanks, no overt advertising on the Ogres . . .) but that still leaves a lot of leeway. Your name will go on the sheet as sponsor, and we’ll send you at least a dozen extra copies of the sheet. This also includes everything at the $100 level. (Again, shipped anywhere.)

  • Pledge $4,500 or more

Your own exclusive 8" x 10” counter sheet. Want an Ogre with your logo on it? Want a squadron of pink GEVs? No problem. We’ll work with you on colors, design, and choice of dies. You’ll also be able to print your logo, name, or other stuff on the margins of the sheet. This could be a promo item for a convention, distributor, or big retail store. These sheets won’t go into the actual game. We will ship you at least 3,000. We’ll own the remaining copies but (unless you wish otherwise) they’ll stay in our warehouse for at least a year after the new Ogre game is released. If you want to resell your sheets, rather than just give them away, you’ll have to sign a licensing agreement to use the Ogre name and images, but that won’t cost you extra. This also includes everything at the $100 level. (Shipping free in the US. You will pay actual shipping costs outside the US.)

Your own exclusive 10.5 x 17.125” counter sheet. You must use one of our existing dies; your best choices are Combine armor, Paneuro armor, or a sheet full of Ogres. Time is short, so you must either provide your own art to our specs, or make the "paint" job simple. You’ll still be able to print your logo, name, or other stuff on the margins of the sheet. These sheets won’t go into the actual game. We will ship you at least 3,000. We’ll own the remaining copies but (unless you wish otherwise) they’ll stay in our warehouse for at least a year after the new Ogre game is released. Your Own Ogre Convention. Steve Jackson will attend your 2-day Ogre event anywhere in the US or Canada (you can ask about other locations, but no promises!). You will need to cover Steve’s hotel and travel costs separately, and dates have to fit his existing commitments, so factor that in, and please talk to Steve directly (post a comment with your contact info) before you pledge! You also get four copies of the Kickstarter edition, your choice of $600 worth of Ogre swag or extras, and naming rights to one Ogre in the Designer's Edition as described for the $200 level. Steve will bring a large stack of party favors (including three of our prototype 3-D Ogres which you can use as prizes), run events, talk about upcoming projects, sign things, and other general convention stuff. Or you can do it as a house party and only invite a few people. Your call.
