What You Get In The Box

We did the happy dance when a full set of Ogre arrived this week. We'll let the pictures speak for themselves:

Above: contents of the Ogre Designer's Edition retail box. Yes, that's the orange crater map way off in the horizon. Production Manager and Line Editor not included

Above: contents of the Ogre Designer's Edition Kickstarter box. Perhaps it's time to call your realtor?

Above: contents of the Ogre Designer's Edition Kickstarter box, plus one of each sponsored sheet

The pictures above don't include the Read Me First, or Pocket Ogre (for supporters at $150 and above).

The conference table is approx. 4 feet wide and 15 feet long. (Great for playing games!)

A Game System Of Truly Epic Proportions

For the Kickstarter box:

  • Box size: 24 by 20 by 5.8 inches
  • Box weight: 25.2 pounds
  • Maps laid out: 31 square feet
  • Maps laid out end-to-end: 13.8 feet long
  • Counter sheets laid out unpunched: 29.9 square feet
  • No. of 2-D counters: 1,100
  • No. of 3-D counters: 104
  • Total no. of counters: 1,204

We've mentioned that this should retail at around $400. We hope now you can see why. .  .

In case you're still wondering about the sponsored sheets, these aren't in Kickstarter or retail copies of Ogre Designer's Edition. They're a separate purchase

Ogre Garage Open For Business!

Update #83 · Apr 23, 2013 · 34 comments

Ogre Garage Now Full

Thanks for your patience! We've received penultimate tray samples, which are a beautiful fit.

All the 3-D counters in the Kickstarter edition. Enough firepower to take over the globe.

The Kickstarter edition, plus one of each sponsored sheet.

The great news is that it's possible to fit all the 3-D counters in the ogre garage, even with the sponsored sheets.

We'll receive the final trays (with minor tweaks) in the next week or two, but at this stage we're confident enough to proceed with production.

Sponsored Sheets Webpage

Our webpage for the $4,500 backer level sponsored sheets is up. Three sponsors, Drew Metzger (see sponsored sheets page), Fire Mountain Games, and Thirdpower, have pre-orders available now.

Happy shopping!

Stakeholders' Report

Update #82 · Apr 19, 2013 · 3 comments

My annual Report to the Stakeholders has been posted. I didn't even realize this was the tenth year that I have written such a report, until someone in the office commented.

If you've been reading these Updates, you probably know everything that the report says about the Ogre project, but you might still be amused by my attempt at a summary. And who knows, you might even want to see how the company is doing as a whole . . .

You can comment here, of course, but at the bottom of the report you'll find links to the earlier reports and a forum topic in which readers have been commenting on the reports since 2005. Context can be interesting!

Sneak Peek at "Final" Rules and Scenarios

Update #81 · Apr 12, 2013 · 19 comments

We posted the almost-final version of the Ogre Designer's Edition rules and scenarios, for your feedback, back in October.

We're delighted to present the "final" versions here (warning -- large files):

Rulebook

Scenario Book

Reference Sheet

Record Sheets

Exactly how "final" are these? The film for printing has been shot, we've received a physical sample of each, and they should be ready to go to print. Having said that, we're doing an intensive check of this "final" sample to see that everything's okay.

You can help if you like -- if you spot a mistake, do please let me know (daniel@sjgames.com) by 6pm Austin time on Monday, April 15.

We're getting closer every day to the finish line, and should have more news about the trays next week.

Thanks, and have a great weekend!

Ogre War Room Now on Android

Update #80 · Apr 11, 2013 · 18 comments

“Andros” means “man” in Greek. The English suffix “-oid” means “having the likeness of.” Hence “android” -- “a robot with the likeness of a human.”

Is an Ogre an android? There are arguments both ways. But . . . is Ogre on Android? The answer is now, emphatically, yes! You can download the test version of Ogre War Room, our free helper app, on Google Play. Please send any feedback to our intrepid in-house coder, Keith Blackard (keith@sjgames.com).

If you’re an IOS user and late to the party, never fear: Ogre War Room is also available from the Apple Store. If you’re using a Windows Phone . . . we’re working on it!

"How can a drum be violent?" "Come closer and I'll show you"

Ogre Miniatures

Phil is heading to the Reaper plant this week, to view the operation built in the wake of the wildly successful Bones Kickstarter. Why would Phil visit Reaper? Fnord. You’re not cleared for that at this time.

Meanwhile, many Ogre minis are still available at Warehouse 23, including boxed sets. The price on these award-winning 1/285 or 6mm metal minis hasn’t changed in over 10 years, so they’re excellent value.

The minis are perfect for Ogre Designer’s Edition, and we expect to have a surge of interest in our remaining stock on release. So be sure to order now, if they’re something you’d like!

Lost Art Contest Winners

We do apologize the art contest announcement got so horribly delayed, as the big box of Ogre goodness kept screaming “feed me!” Congratulations to winners Alvin Helms and Cundo Rabaudi, whose art is featured in Ogre Designer’s Edition.

Ogre Mark I by Cundo Rabaudi

Urban Pacification by Alvin Helms

We had many good entries, and picking just two winners was tough. We’ve put up a gallery of the winners, plus other finalists, for your viewing pleasure. Thank you to everyone who submitted art.

Sponsorship at this level will improve the rulebook by letting us hire a fantastic illustrator to do some character images. The $335 level . . . PLUS our artist, working from your photo, will put you into rulebook illustrations, and your name will appear in the credits. Depending on your own look and your preferences, you might be an officer, a trooper, a tanker, a refugee, a civilian leader, a technician . . . (Okay, at this level we will ship your game anywhere.)

    Estimated delivery: Nov 2012
  • Pledge $3,000 or more

You are sponsoring a whole 8" x 10” counter sheet, which will go into every copy of the game. We’ll work with you to determine what goes on the sheet and how it will be colored. The unit design will have to fit Ogre canon (no clown faces on the Superheavy Tanks, no overt advertising on the Ogres . . .) but that still leaves a lot of leeway. Your name will go on the sheet as sponsor, and we’ll send you at least a dozen extra copies of the sheet. This also includes everything at the $100 level. (Again, shipped anywhere.)

    Estimated delivery: Nov 2012
  • Pledge $4,500 or more

    8 backers All gone!

Your own exclusive 8" x 10” counter sheet. Want an Ogre with your logo on it? Want a squadron of pink GEVs? No problem. We’ll work with you on colors, design, and choice of dies. You’ll also be able to print your logo, name, or other stuff on the margins of the sheet. This could be a promo item for a convention, distributor, or big retail store. These sheets won’t go into the actual game. We will ship you at least 3,000. We’ll own the remaining copies but (unless you wish otherwise) they’ll stay in our warehouse for at least a year after the new Ogre game is released. If you want to resell your sheets, rather than just give them away, you’ll have to sign a licensing agreement to use the Ogre name and images, but that won’t cost you extra. This also includes everything at the $100 level. (Shipping free in the US. You will pay actual shipping costs outside the US.)

    Estimated delivery: Nov 2012
  • Pledge $4,500 or more

Your own exclusive 10.5 x 17.125” counter sheet. You must use one of our existing dies; your best choices are Combine armor, Paneuro armor, or a sheet full of Ogres. Time is short, so you must either provide your own art to our specs, or make the "paint" job simple. You’ll still be able to print your logo, name, or other stuff on the margins of the sheet. 1 backer Limited (1 of 2 left)

Your Own Ogre Convention. Steve Jackson will attend your 2-day Ogre event anywhere in the US or Canada (you can ask about other locations, but no promises!). You will need to cover Steve’s hotel and travel costs separately, and dates have to fit his existing commitments, so factor that in, and please talk to Steve directly (post a comment with your contact info) before you pledge! You also get four copies of the Kickstarter edition, your choice of $600 worth of Ogre swag or extras, and naming rights to one Ogre in the Designer's Edition as described for the $200 level. Steve will bring a large stack of party favors (including three of our prototype 3-D Ogres which you can use as prizes), run events, talk about upcoming projects, sign things, and other general convention stuff. Or you can do it as a house party and only invite a few people. Your call.

    Estimated delivery: Jan 2014
