Launch Parrrty! Registration Now Open!

Update #87 · Jun 11, 2013 · 29 comments

When and where will the Launch Party be held?

It'll be held in Austin on Saturday, October 19, 2013. Doors will open at 10am. The exact venue will be announced later.

How do I register? How long will registration be open?

You can register here. We'll take this form down at some time after noon (Austin time) on Monday, July 8th.

Must I register in advance? Are places limited?

Yes to both. Only those who register before Monday, July 8th will be guaranteed places.

How much do tickets cost?

Tickets for age 14+ are $25. This includes a goody bag with a limited edition Ogre-Launch-Themed T-Shirt ($19.95 MSRP value) and other items.

Tickets for age 13 and under are free. However, these guests must still be registered in advance (there's an option to add friends and family on the form).

If you want a child-sized limited edition T-Shirt for your child guest, there's an option on the form to select a T-shirt size for them. This will automatically upgrade the child ticket from "free" to "$15". This ticket comes with a child-sized T-shirt (it does NOT come with anything else in the goody bag).

What events will be at the Launch Party?

There'll be signings by Steve, the opportunity to buy extras, organized play, and more. We aim to arrange for the sponsored counter sheets to be on sale (whether a particular sponsored sheet is available may depend on the individual sponsor).

There'll also be tables for open play, since what many folks will want to do is to just sit down, open the box and start playing!

Can I pick up my Kickstarter rewards? (Game + extras)

Yes. If you do, you'll be among the first to get Ogre Designer's Edition

NOTE: You have to choose to either grab it all, or nothing. Unfortunately, we're not able to separate your rewards.

Will the extras come with my pickup?

Yes. Note that if you choose to pick up your rewards, then you must take it all.

Can I NOT pick up my Kickstarter rewards?

Yes, you can still get your Kickstarter rewards shipped to you. This is the default option on the registration form. Shipping will begin on Monday, October 21.

Can a friend register me as an additional ticket holder, if I'm a Kickstarter supporter picking up my rewards (game + extras)?

No. Only main ticket holders can pick up Kickstarter rewards (this is clearly stated on the form).

Do I have to print my registration confirmation to bring to the event? Or just bring ID?

Only the main ticket holder (for each group registered together) needs to bring ID to the event. We'll check your ID against the guest list. There's no need to print out your registration.

Can I buy additional extras at the event?

Yes, you can buy anything that's still available at the event. Pocket Ogre will NOT be on sale (though backers at $150 and above will receive their copy if they're picking up rewards). We intend for only $150 backers and above to have Pocket Ogre, for a few months at least.

I'm not a Kickstarter backer. Can I still come to the Launch Party?

Yes, you're welcome to register!

We hope this clarifies any questions you have about the Launch Party.

We're really looking forward to seeing many of you, and celebrating this gigantic monster which we created together!

Launch Party and Delivery Dates

Update #86 · Jun 3, 2013 · 94 comments

We know you’ve been waiting patiently for this announcement (I’m sorry it’s taken so long). Except for a few minor corrections -- for instance, some crossed wires over the latest file for the rulebook -- Ogre is now officially in manufacturing (cue delirious cheering here at the office). Following manufacturing comes assembly, then shipping, and then . . .

. . . the Launch Party will be on Saturday, October 19 in Austin. Folks who attend will be the first to get the game. Watch this space for the registration announcement, coming soon. For those of you who can't make it to the party (we'll miss you), we'll start shipping your games (and extras!) from our warehouse on Monday, October 21.

This date is final, barring something unexpected. We think there won’t be any delays from here. What could go wrong? Something happening to the factory; assembly issues; enemy cyberships lying in wait outside Hong Kong harbor; BGG-Zilla coming to life and stomping all over. You get the picture.

Why It Took So Long

We screwed up, period. We underestimated the size of the game, and the effect your support had on what comes in the box. (Thank you!) Once again, we’re sorry. We really appreciate the grace you’ve shown.

The following pictures and video help indicate just how much game you’re getting. We’re not kidding when we say that something this epic has never been attempted in the industry before.

“I think we’ve created a monster…”

“…and you helped us!”

The counter sheets alone are bigger than some games (we hope the Munchkin editor isn’t watching!)

“So, tough guy, I’ll bring twenty of my guys to show you who’s boss, and . . . oh, nevermind.”

(Bonus alt caption: the twenty-two games on the right are $24.95 each. The one on the left is $100. You do the math . . . )

Final Sample Arrived This Morning!

Update #85 · May 23, 2013 · 56 comments

We've received the final sample of Ogre Designer's Edition -- from what I could tell at the initial inspection (after we gleefully ripped the wrapping materials off and opened the box) the game is looking excellent!

Daniel will spend the next few days inspecting everything, and then we can give our feedback to our printing partner GPI by Tuesday afternoon. Phil will then meet with them Wednesday, allowing us to finalize his trip to China to oversee the actual assembly.

Thanks for being so patient -- we expect to have a clear delivery estimate for you next week!

While Daniel slaves away in the proofing mines we thought we'd take time to announce a couple of new Ogre releases . . . that are available right now from Warehouse 23

New Ogre Patch

Shout out to Ogre fans everywhere with this unique military patch proudly announcing your tour of duty with the North American Combine 77th Ogre Brigade!

Ogre T-Shirt is Back

Sensors detect a blip on the horizon . . . it's back! The classic, ultra-retro-cool Ogre tank silhouette on a T-Shirt. The huge lettering and menacing profile will intimidate your opponent into instant submission!

What You Get In The Box

We did the happy dance when a full set of Ogre arrived this week. We'll let the pictures speak for themselves:

Above: contents of the Ogre Designer's Edition retail box. Yes, that's the orange crater map way off in the horizon. Production Manager and Line Editor not included

Above: contents of the Ogre Designer's Edition Kickstarter box. Perhaps it's time to call your realtor?

Above: contents of the Ogre Designer's Edition Kickstarter box, plus one of each sponsored sheet

The pictures above don't include the Read Me First, or Pocket Ogre (for supporters at $150 and above).

The conference table is approx. 4 feet wide and 15 feet long. (Great for playing games!)

A Game System Of Truly Epic Proportions

For the Kickstarter box:

  • Box size: 24 by 20 by 5.8 inches
  • Box weight: 25.2 pounds
  • Maps laid out: 31 square feet
  • Maps laid out end-to-end: 13.8 feet long
  • Counter sheets laid out unpunched: 29.9 square feet
  • No. of 2-D counters: 1,100
  • No. of 3-D counters: 104
  • Total no. of counters: 1,204

We've mentioned that this should retail at around $400. We hope now you can see why. .  .

In case you're still wondering about the sponsored sheets, these aren't in Kickstarter or retail copies of Ogre Designer's Edition. They're a separate purchase

Ogre Garage Open For Business!

Update #83 · Apr 23, 2013 · 34 comments

Ogre Garage Now Full

Thanks for your patience! We've received penultimate tray samples, which are a beautiful fit.

All the 3-D counters in the Kickstarter edition. Enough firepower to take over the globe.

The Kickstarter edition, plus one of each sponsored sheet.

The great news is that it's possible to fit all the 3-D counters in the ogre garage, even with the sponsored sheets.

We'll receive the final trays (with minor tweaks) in the next week or two, but at this stage we're confident enough to proceed with production.

Sponsored Sheets Webpage

Our webpage for the $4,500 backer level sponsored sheets is up. Three sponsors, Drew Metzger (see sponsored sheets page), Fire Mountain Games, and Thirdpower, have pre-orders available now.

Happy shopping!

Sponsorship at this level will improve the rulebook by letting us hire a fantastic illustrator to do some character images. The $335 level . . . PLUS our artist, working from your photo, will put you into rulebook illustrations, and your name will appear in the credits. Depending on your own look and your preferences, you might be an officer, a trooper, a tanker, a refugee, a civilian leader, a technician . . . (Okay, at this level we will ship your game anywhere.)

You are sponsoring a whole 8" x 10” counter sheet, which will go into every copy of the game. We’ll work with you to determine what goes on the sheet and how it will be colored. The unit design will have to fit Ogre canon (no clown faces on the Superheavy Tanks, no overt advertising on the Ogres . . .) but that still leaves a lot of leeway. Your name will go on the sheet as sponsor, and we’ll send you at least a dozen extra copies of the sheet. This also includes everything at the $100 level. (Again, shipped anywhere.)

    Estimated delivery: Nov 2012
  • Pledge $4,500 or more

    8 backers All gone!

Your own exclusive 8" x 10” counter sheet. Want an Ogre with your logo on it? Want a squadron of pink GEVs? No problem. We’ll work with you on colors, design, and choice of dies. You’ll also be able to print your logo, name, or other stuff on the margins of the sheet. This could be a promo item for a convention, distributor, or big retail store. These sheets won’t go into the actual game. We will ship you at least 3,000. We’ll own the remaining copies but (unless you wish otherwise) they’ll stay in our warehouse for at least a year after the new Ogre game is released. If you want to resell your sheets, rather than just give them away, you’ll have to sign a licensing agreement to use the Ogre name and images, but that won’t cost you extra. This also includes everything at the $100 level. (Shipping free in the US. You will pay actual shipping costs outside the US.)

Your own exclusive 10.5 x 17.125” counter sheet. You must use one of our existing dies; your best choices are Combine armor, Paneuro armor, or a sheet full of Ogres. Time is short, so you must either provide your own art to our specs, or make the "paint" job simple. You’ll still be able to print your logo, name, or other stuff on the margins of the sheet. These sheets won’t go into the actual game. We will ship you at least 3,000. We’ll own the remaining copies but (unless you wish otherwise) they’ll stay in our warehouse for at least a year after the new Ogre game is released. 1 backer Limited (1 of 2 left)

Your Own Ogre Convention. Steve Jackson will attend your 2-day Ogre event anywhere in the US or Canada (you can ask about other locations, but no promises!). You will need to cover Steve’s hotel and travel costs separately, and dates have to fit his existing commitments, so factor that in, and please talk to Steve directly (post a comment with your contact info) before you pledge! You also get four copies of the Kickstarter edition, your choice of $600 worth of Ogre swag or extras, and naming rights to one Ogre in the Designer's Edition as described for the $200 level. Steve will bring a large stack of party favors (including three of our prototype 3-D Ogres which you can use as prizes), run events, talk about upcoming projects, sign things, and other general convention stuff. Or you can do it as a house party and only invite a few people. Your call.

    Estimated delivery: Jan 2014
