We are moving to a long-term home, so that New Orleans will always have public access to a beautiful screenprint shop and darkroom!
NEED A PRINTSHOP OR DARKROOM IN NEW ORLEANS? we hope to invite you to our new location...! Three years at The New Orleans Community Printshop has been amazing, and now we are moving to a permanent home. In three years, in three different locations we have held workshops, field trips, gallery shows, drop-in screen printing nights and provided space for professional artists to make beautiful prints. This all-volunteer printshop has served hundreds of local artists and students at our current location at 831 elysian fields, but the building has sold and it is time to grow. The space we have moved into is huge (2,100 sq feet, lovely landlord) and within its brick walls we are building a beautiful new screen-printing shop and black and white darkroom for the community.
Why are we doing a fundraising campaign? We want to build out our new location so that we can move in and re-open quickly, so that the public, Printshop members, and printshop students will keep having public access to printmaking resources. The majority of build out is being done by us volunteers, ourselves professional artists and teachers that keep the printshop going (we already started!); but we need to raise money for the materials. The $8,000.00 goal covers: plumbing our huge sinks; the lumber, drywall and sundries to enclose the darkroom and screen exposure room; venting; screen storage; paper storage; gallery walls and in some cases (plumbing/electrical) hiring the expertise to accomplish everything quickly and efficiently and safely. Once the buildout is done we can re-open our doors to keep printing beautiful work, (like our amazing prizes). We are printers and teachers who rely on a printshop to grow our practice - whether that is teaching youth or building a portfolio, and we are working hard to build a community printshop that will last a very long time.

We are committed to expanding our resources and our outreach: with a larger darkroom, a classroom and more print areas, we can do more workshops, classes and field trips. And for you out-of-town supporters, a visiting artist program is coming.....
As for our awesome rewards...We cant wait to say "finally, the walls are built, the sink is plumbed, let's start printing!" and the first things we are going to make are your prizes: This might be a once-in-a-lifetime chance you will have to get your friend's face printed on dozens of pizza delicious boxes to go out into new orleans; or to get some of these beautiful prints: some of the editions are going to close after this project...
here's a peak at what we do, and what you can expect from us in the new shop.
