My ensemble has been performing live score to the rare Soviet era silent film My Grandmother (1929) by Kote Mikaberidze for ten years. We have been invited to perform in the Republic of Georgia for the past two years but had to cancel because of war. We are now poised to perform at the Tbilisi International Film Festival and at Batumi Art House by the Black Sea. I've raised enough money to cover our airfares and now I need to raise money to pay my musicians.
My Grandmother is a comedic, anti-bureaucratic romp that was banned by the Soviet regime for over forty years. The Pacific Film Archive commissioned a new score from me and we are finally taking this project to the director's country of origin...beautiful Republic of Georgia. The Georgian National Film Center doesn't even have a copy of this great film! So I feel like we are returning a piece of their rich history back to them.

Beth Custer is a composer, performer and the proprietor of BC Records. A clarinetist and singer, she is a member of The Beth Custer Ensemble, Clarinet Thing , Trance Mission, Eighty Mile Beach, Club Foot Orchestra, and Dream On: Frith/Custer/Fajt. Her music favors strong melodies and combines strains of American blues & jazz, Eastern European folk, and contemporary classical but remains distinctly her own sound.
