What is UG3?

Ultra Galactic Gung-Ho Gurus (UG3) is a 30 minute educational comedy for kids age 8-12 about humanity’s quest for outer space. This film, an entertaining mixture of 2D, Stop-Motion, and 3D animation, along with traditional puppetry, is a production of the filmmaking team of Al and Lee Waller. Their last film, Bugworld, premiered at The Los Angeles International Children’s Film Festival and won a Best Film Award from Kids First – the largest film organization for children and teens in the world.

What Is Kickstarter?

Kickstarter is a new way to fund creative projects, allowing us to give rewards to our backers! It is an ALL OR NOTHING campaign based idea, so if we do not raise the money over a certain period of time, no money changes hands. If our project is successful, all of the money we raise will directly fund our film to the last penny, every dollar counts and will help make this film a reality!

Why Is UG3 Important?

As seasoned educators and filmmakers we have experienced firsthand the power of quality educational media. It entices and engages students with the same tools that draw millions of people to box offices, television sets and gaming consoles every year. In producing UG3 we are creating a balance of high voltage entertainment and solidly grounded educational content.

We’ve already screened the animatic version of the film for over 150 viewers in our target age group, along with the teachers of these students. The response from these focus groups was highly positive, giving us a lot of encouragement as well as insight into how to improve the film even more. This is the first of many films and related projects that will grow from the UG3 concept, and we are going more than the extra mile to make sure it is of the highest quality.

The Future Of This Project

The UG3 concept was written and designed as more than just a single film or series. It was created as an educational brand. Even before the completion of this film an aggressive marketing plan was initiated.

The first stage is to build the film’s reputation through key film festivals and conferences; affordable transmedia projects and a focused grassroots campaign while simultaneously completing two more episodes.  

As the credibility of the project grows the second stage kicks in with seeking  wider distribution avenues through television, as well as print and online publishing venues. Your help goes to beginning the first stage of this plan by providing the funds for original music, vintage footage, equipment and software and by providing the crucial seed money for the marketing initiatives.

$3000.00 is the bare-bones amount needed to complete and begin marketing this first film. The more we raise over the initial goal, the more effective the marketing campaign will be in getting this educational property launched right. By going over our goal we also open the possibility of hiring other artist/animators to help with this and subsequent films.
