Imagine an "Urban Atlas" that showed you each city through the words of those who live there.
Hi, we are Marina and Carlos. We live in New Orleans, a city full of tastes, smells, sounds and textures that make people who live here proud of its identity and uniqueness. How does everyone experience their city? To find out, we are going to take a month-long train trip through six cities of the east half of the United States, to find and record your stories. We want to know what happens When Cities Talk.
Some rewards are city-sensitive, please read all and choose carefully!
Your stories don't necessarily have to be about your city, they just need to take place there. Cities are defined by their people, and by telling us your stories, we get to know you; we get to know your city (and we are sure you have much more interesting stories to tell than ours ;). After the trip, we will create a website to share them. If this project is successful, we would like to visit more of the U.S. and other countries in the future and open the site for submissions, so that the website becomes a "World Atlas" where people can get to experience cities through people, and not just photos of buildings or videos of events. We are looking for all kinds of stories. Happy, sad, funny, shocking, light-hearted, dark, old, new, crazy, or simply amusing.
The trip will start in late August or early September (exact date TBA), and we will send you (our backers) our itinerary so we can set meeting dates and record your stories, and hopefully grab a bite or drinks afterwards.
The cities we will be recording in are New Orleans, Chicago, Boston, New York City, Philadelphia and Washington D.C. If you want to participate with your story, please check carefully when selecting your reward to make sure it corresponds to your city. Even if you don't live in any of these towns, you can submit your own story ($20 reward level and up), or just support our project and receive cool rewards. Just be careful not to select a reward meant for a specific city (the $25 kind).
The funds will go towards getting equipment to make quality videos of your stories and quality audio outdoors, covering some of the expenses while we are in each city (transport, materials for rewards, batteries), making and launching the website, and any other project related expense. We already have funds for the rail passes and had planned to make this trip for a long time. We just decided to take advantage of this great opportunity to create something worthwhile and share it, as we discovered a good portion of the country that has been our home for the past 7 years. Yes, you can. All backers pledging $20 or more will be able to submit their story if they want to share it.

We will be going to each town and personally recording the story each backer wants to tell. We have to make sure we can meet with every one of them, and even after this we'll have a lot of work on our hands with all the videos we have to edit, the design of the website and making the rewards. You can still submit your own story by pledging at the $20 level.
