Freedom's just another word for one thing left to lose.
Can't stop won't stop!
BREAKING NEWS: Thanks to your generosity, we have exceeded our goal! We are on the floor with gratitude, but humbly, we ask you: if you can find it in your hearts to keep donating and keep shouting out, exceeding our $75K goal means we may be able to consider many aspects of great filmmaking that were previously unattainable to us. With more money, we can hire more and better-paid crew members. We can license songs and images to round out our 2004 landscape. We can bring more people to our Wisconsin shoot. And so much more. Help Farah Goes Bang crack $100K to become one of Kickstarter's highest-grossing film campaigns of ALL TIME!
Exciting casting updates!
Our Farah is...Circumstance actress Nikohl Boosheri! Circumstance, a forbidden-love story of two young women in Tehran, won a nearly outrageous number of 2011 film festival awards, including the Sundance Audience Award. It was named the year’s “most anticipated” independent film by the New York Times, and was one of Paste Magazine’s 50 best films of 2011. Nikohl’s was named Best Performance at both the Rome, LA OutFest and Noor Film Festivals. We know that Nikohl’s talent and stardom will help our film reach similar acclaim!
Kiran Deol, an actress, comedian and documentary filmmaker, will co-star as Roopa Raj, a political junkie who blazes a trail across America for the Kerry campaign in the hopes of earning a job at the John Kerry White House. Deol, a graduate of Harvard University, directed the feature documentary Woman Rebel, which premiered on HBO and was nominated for an Emmy Award. Kiran’s outsize intelligence and outrageous wit will illuminate the role of Roopa.

FARAH GOES BANG tells the story of Farah Mahtab, a woman in her twenties who tries to lose her virginity while on the road campaigning for presidential candidate John Kerry in 2004. Farah and her friends K.J. and Roopa follow the campaign trail across historic Route 66 on their way to Ohio, the central battleground state of 2004, seizing control of this charged moment in their lives and the life of their country. FARAH GOES BANG is Thelma & Louise meets Y Tu Mamá También meets On The Road: the film was co-written by Meera Menon and Laura Goode, will be directed by Meera Menon, and will be produced by Laura Goode, Liz Singh, and Danielle Firoozi.
FARAH GOES BANG is a valentine to contemporary feminism, youth in revolt, and the passionate politics of idealism. It is the travelogue of three women out on a highway belonging not to suicidal housewives or bubblegum pop stars, but to young women as agents, as doers, as authors of their own American odyssey. In this way, FARAH updates the classic American tradition of the Western, telling a new trail story--whose subjects are both cowgirls and Indians, both heroines and outlaws--in a diverse, powerful, and hilarious female voice.
With this campaign, our team aims to raise $75,000 or more in the month of April to fund production of the film in June and July 2012. Visit our website at www.farahgoesbang.com to learn more about the film, the community we’re building with our blog, Cherry Bomb, and the conversations we’re having on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and YouTube.
WHO WE ARE
The FARAH GOES BANG project is an intensely personal one for co-writers Meera Menon (director) and Laura Goode (producer), who have been friends, collaborators, and sometime roommates for almost ten years, and who have dreamed of making a movie together for pretty much all of those years. After producing four short films and a full-length play together, receiving our respective MFAs in film and writing, and spending two years co-writing the FGB script, it feels uniquely appropriate for us to be making a film about friends who make each other laugh, tell each other secrets, and constantly challenge each other to grow.
HOW KICKSTARTER WORKS
It’s easy: all you have to do is sign up for a free account, give any amount you can, and claim your reward. Your donation amount will not be publicly displayed, and we receive your funds only if we meet our full $75,000 goal. If you’d rather not claim a reward, you’re welcome just to donate, and if you’d like to increase your donation at any point during the campaign, just sign in, come back to this page, and click the blue “Manage Your Donation” button to enter a new amount or choose a new incentive.
We love hearing from our supporters and prospective supporters, and have always hoped this film would inspire lots of new conversations. Please contact us at farahgoesbang AT gmail DOT com with any questions whatsoever, and visit our website, Facebook, and Twitter pages frequently for updates on the film, Cherry Bomb, and much, much more.
From the bottoms of our exploding hearts, thank you for visiting this page and considering making a donation. We’re building a dream, a business of ideas, and are more grateful for every supporter than you will ever know.
Yours in imagination,
Laura Goode + Meera Menon
Co-creators, FARAH GOES BANG

Paul Gleason, Director of Photography
Developed as a companion project to the FGB film and edited by Neelanjana Banerjee and Laura Goode, Cherry Bomb is a collaborative blog that collects stories of sexual initiation in a fun, safe, and beguilingly secret way. Cherry Bomb’s central concept is simple: in honor of Farah’s virgin voyage, we want to hear about the first time you had sex. The Cherry Bomb site is password-protected, and password access to Cherry Bomb is provided only to Kickstarter backers who give $25 or more, or to anyone who submits a 1-1000 word story to us at farahgoesbang AT gmail DOT com. Contributions can be totally anonymous, and we are committed to treating all stories of sexual initiation with care and respect. What’s your story?
The quickest way to get the password to Cherry Bomb is to send us your v-card story at email@example.com. As soon as you do, we'll reply with the password, as well as a few questions about how you wish to be identified, or not identified. We're delighted by the many stories we've received so far, and looking forward to many more!
For those of you who have donated $25 or more and claim Cherry Bomb access as a reward, please note that Kickstarter does not release your information (full name, email address) to us until after the campaign. However, we don't want to make you wait that long to partake in the Cherry Bomb community! If you want access ASAP (and we know you do), include your full name when you donate so we can look up your email address, message us with your email address, or just shoot us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org. We'll send out backer emails with the password every Monday to those of you whose email addresses we have, and we also respond to friendly pokes from those who just can't wait until Monday!
As a team, we’ve put a huge amount of thought and love into what we want to give back to our supporters. Our incentives only come with a few strings attached:
-For any donation level under $250, we’ll only be able to mail rewards (i.e. DVDs, Campaign Packets, Road Trip Supply Packs, etc.) to supporters with US addresses. However, we’ll offer digital downloads of the film, our music, and other goodies that will be available to our international supporters, whom we greatly value!
-Even within the US, many rewards are location-specific (i.e. a role in the film, a party on our set), and we regret that we can’t provide travel for backers. However, we’ve done our best to make sure every location-specific incentive (i.e. a role in the film) is paired with one available to any donor’s location (i.e. we’ll name a character after you, or put your picture in the film).
-Please note that most of our incentives won't go out until later this year.
Hell yes, they can! In fact, we think it's really important that more women are employed in key behind-the-camera roles like directors, writers, and producers, and all of the people with those jobs on FGB are women. Only four women have ever been nominated for a Best Director Academy Award. Less than 10% of films today are directed or written by a woman. So when you support the campaign to fund FGB, you're not just helping us make our movie--you're helping to build momentum being a really important movement to get more women behind the camera, which is the only way to ensure that women's stories are being told wholly and truthfully.
The short answer is that every single dollar you donate will go directly toward funding the production of the film. No detours, no BS, all filmmaking, all the time.
The longer answer is partially given in our Kickstarter video: your dollars will fund our production value, which is what makes a movie look good, sound good, and all hang together. Your dollars will compensate the time and talent of our incredibly dedicated cast and crew. Your dollars will help us secure locations and permits, travel to Wisconsin to shoot part of the film, obtain all our equipment, buy our 2004 boot-cut jeans and 2004 cell phones, keep everyone fed and housed, and so much more. We're making a big dream on a little budget, so every dollar is absolutely necessary.
That's a tough one! Laura's scrappy, and Meera's crafty, so it would be a suspenseful match. But really, we believe in collaboration, not competition, and we're nonviolent.
Yes! If you would like to contribute to the film and send someone else one of our rewards as a gift, that would be both thoughtful and easy. Make a donation as you normally would, and after our deadline, we will email you through Kickstarter to request any necessary information for the gift recipient (their address, etc). We will then make sure they receive the reward.
If we exceed our $75,000 goal in April, we desperately hope that people will keep contributing, thus enabling us to consider many aspects of great filmmaking that are not available to a $75,000 microbudget. No matter the final total, every dollar we receive from our Kickstarter campaign will go directly to fund production of FARAH GOES BANG through our production company, Farah Goes Bang, LLC. Please note: we are a California Limited Liability Company, and not a 501(c)3 organization nonprofit organization.
