We’re Funded! And a Personal Thank You Note from Kaneisha

Many weeks ago when I sat down to plan this Kickstarter campaign with my team, I could not imagine what a 30-day all-or-nothing campaign would be like. My friends, family, and mentors inspired me to play big so I decided to go for a big $10k goal. I figured that most advances for new authors are around $10k, and I wanted to see if I could do something similar even without the backing of a big publishing house.

I knew I had written a book that was a product of my personal learning and research, answers to questions I was often asked, and just plain obsession with analyzing and strategizing about relationships and happiness. However, as I like to say, without purse or script, I decided to dive into the campaign.

30 days later, we are fully funded with even a little to spare. To all you early fans and supporters, I can’t thank you enough. I’m truly grateful for your support that has allowed this campaign to be a monumental success!

I’m in the last few days of finalizing the manuscript and sending it off to the printer. As we polish the book, I get more and more excited about sharing it with you and self-love mavens around the world. For the many of you that know me personally, you know I will be teaching and coaching people in one form or another until I die. This book encompasses the best lessons in life and love that I’ve learned so far, and I hope that reading it will entertain, inspire, and delight you as much as writing it did for me.

Once the campaign closes, my team and I go immediately into production and preparing logistics in order to get the pre-ordered books out to you in time for Valentine’s Day 2013. Not only will all of you get to enjoy your BYOB goods when they arrive at your doorstep, I want you to also know that your help has allowed me to send free copies to 100 women’s centers around the US.

Hello friends, classmates, Facebook family, and fellow self-love mavens!

When I was in my early twenties, I read every self-improvement book I could get my hands on, but few of the fun, entertaining, and inspiring books I read showed me how to get what I wanted in life outside of getting a man.

Be Your Own Boyfriend is the book I wish I'd had when I was in college. This book will give young women the tools they need to navigate the murky waters of their twenties with confidence, from letting go of relationships that don't serve them to getting clear on their life goals and getting the encouragement and guidance they need to pursue their passions.

The more people who buy the book and pledge to the campaign, the more copies we can donate to college women's centers, and the more equipped I will be to publicize the book to an even wider audience beyond this group of our early fans here on Kickstarter.

If we meet our $10,000 funding goal, we will send free paperback copies of Be Your Own Boyfriend to 100 college women's centers around the nation.

Most colleges have a women's center which serves as a safe, fun space for people of all genders with a special focus on programs, activities, and resources that address the concerns and interests of young women. These women's centers have small, curated libraries of books of interest to young women, and we will be sending copies of BYOB to women's centers who have expressed to us that they are eager for a fresh, new perspective on relationships, self-love, and success to share with their students.

What's in the Book

• Part 1: Decide to Be Happy, in which I discuss the importance of letting go and moving on, whether it's self-defeating habits or soul-sucking relationships
• Part 2: Unleash Your Sexy, in which I encourage young women to invest time and energy into crafting a sensual life from the inside out
• Part 3: Change Your Life where I guide the reader in getting clear on what she wants out of life and encourage her to take real steps toward achieving her goals 

Throughout the book, I reveal the 50 Self-Love Principles every young woman needs for crafting a life that she is head over heels in love with. Sprinkled throughout each chapter are real reader-submitted stories and advice, insight from guys called "brospectives," and juicy details about my own life struggles and triumphs, called Kaneisha Confessionals.
