Update #6: As this project draws to a close...
...it doesn't look like it will successfully reach full funding. HOWEVER, I plan to launch another 365 shots creative commons photo project with a lower goal of $300 soon, so if you're still interested, please consider contributing to that project.
Update #5: Nikon D70 up for grabs
Hey backers and anyone tripping across this. The project only has 15 days until it reaches completion, and we're only about 12% of the way there, so to try to drum up some more interest I've decided to randomly give away my fully functional Nikon D70 with kit lens and spare battery to a backer (any backer no matter how much was donated) should this project reach completion. Tell all your friends and let's fully fund this sucker! ;-)

Update #2: Amazon has the Sigma DP2 available now...
... but it's not from Amazon themselves and it's $699, so a bit above the original price of this project.
For those of you who have funded, thanks for your support. Please spread the word and by all means let me know what you'd like a picture of / what you'd like your picture(s) dedicated to once (if) the project fully launches.

Update #1: All overages will be donated to the Creative Commons!
Right after I launched this project, I had a brainstorm. Any money that is donated to this project beyond the initial $649 (plus shipping plus any additional bits I may end up needing for the camera, like an extra battery and SD card), I will donate to Creative Commons!

I will take an original picture with the Sigma DP2 once I receive it. As a donor, I will send you a full resolution digital original of the photo and post the photo under Creative Commons on my Flickr account with a description linking to your blog, twitter account, or some other online place to which you want to draw attention (within reason. no porn, hate sites, etc). I will also make an archive of all 1000 pictures available for download to contributors.
