About this project

I'm an amateur photographer and an artist. I have a nice Nikon D80 DSLR, but it's bulky and a lot to carry around and more often than not, I find myself not carrying it around. I need a good DSLR quality portable camera that I can slide into my back pocket so that I can take more pictures in more places and always have a good camera on my person. I want this so that I can take more pictures, practice more photography, and be a better photographer. The camera I want to get to fill this need is the Sigma DP2 which should hopefully be available sometime this month:

It costs $649.00.

I have over 2000 people following me on Twitter and about a 1000 people visit my blog per day. If a large enough portion of those people each donate $1 and only $1 to this project, I will buy a Sigma DP2 with the money and then undertake a photo project to reward the donors.

If this project is successfully funded, I will take 1000 shots with the Sigma DP2. I will try my best to make each shot a unique and interesting picture. I will release all 1000 of these pictures under a Creative Commons Atrtribution 3.0 license, so that they are free for use and remix as long as they attribute myself. I will make them all available on my Flickr account in a Sigma DP2 photo project set. I will dedicate one of the photos to each contributor (or for each contributed dollar, so if you donate 10 dollars, I will dedicate 10 pictures to you) offering a link to your blog, your Twitter account, or whatever else you want to promote online in the description of the picture. I will email you the highest quality original digital copy of the image available (not run through Flickr's conversion tools) for your free use however you would like, and I will provide you with a link to the full collection of 1000 images in an easily downloadable format.

If this all does well and the pictures come out great, then I will also look into releasing an CC PDF ebook of the project, complete with all of the above dedications. If that goes well as well, then I will seek a publisher and let you all know as we reach each step along the way.
