"Less Than Three" is a short film about two co-directors struggling for control over the same film, while dating the exact same girl.
Less Than Three will be a 20 minute short film about two friends who are directing the same short film, while also dating the exact same girl at the exact same time.
Being that this is a film about filmmakers making a film, you can see how the movie becomes very meta. We decided to take it a step further by having the co-directors of the film, Nick and Joe, acting in the film as themselves: two friends named Nick and Joe co-directing a film.
Confused yet? Good, 'cause we're going even deeper. The film's cinematographer will be playing the film within the film's cinematographer on screen. The same will be true for many of the other positions in the crew. In addition, every character in the film will be named according to the actor playing that role. It's this meta aspect of the film that we hope audiences will find most interesting and unique, while also giving the film a natural feeling.
We hope that audiences will also be entertained by the complication of the two co-directors in the film knowingly dating the same girl at the same time, which is in itself a metaphor for the level of control they try to maintain over the direction of the film. This awkward relationship provides most of the films comedy, but overall the film deals with more somber, relatable themes such as growing up, societal expectations, and the surrender of control.
This is a passion project we've been developing for a while, and we need your help to make it. We've budgeted the film's expenses at roughly $3,000, which includes props, costumes, transportation, food for cast and crew, music rights, production supplies, post-production, and submission fees, as we plan to submit the film to as many respected festivals as possible. Being college students and graduates, we couldn't come close to funding this film to the extent that it deserves.
That's where you come in. We're counting on your donations to make this film. But since Kickstarter is an all or nothing agreement, we're not asking for $3,000. We've set our goal at $2,200, hoping that you guys will help us to reach or exceed that amount. We cannot express how crucial your donations are to the making of this film. Our goal is to tell a unique and entertaining story in a unique and entertaining way. But without your help, it simply won't happen.
