Update #3: 104% Funded with 19 Hours to Go!

Posted on December 30

First of all...my thanks to all of you for backing Detroit Portraits as well as sharing this project within your networks. Yesterday morning we were only 20% funded and to be honest I was beginning to doubt whether this thing could be pulled off...but just 36 hours later we now stand at 104% funded with 131 backers! I'm excited beyond words.

I've been getting 2 consistent questions since we became fully funded just 4 hours ago.

What will you do with the additional funds raised over your goal of $6500?

Kickstarter stops taking pledges at 4:15 Saturday afternoon, December 31. I'm not expecting anything too substantial but I've decided to set aside any additional funds I receive towards a potential future small book project consisting of the Detroit Portraits.

I say "potential" right now only because at the moment all I care to focus on is getting to work right away in Detroit and taking the best portraits I can for the next couple of months. If I do that well then other opportunities will arise and I'll deal with that much later in the year. I believe that first things need to come first.

When will you start shooting Detroit Portraits?

I've already scheduled a full day of shoots on Thursday, January 5 and will return as often as I can in January. I can't wait!

Update #2: What's $1500 Worth?

Posted on December 29

So in exchange for a pledge of $1500, you will receive your choice of one of these 30”x40” color portraits that recently exhibited at the Grand Rapids Art Museum. I was so pleased with how well these large C-prints came out…honestly, they’re the finest large color prints I’ve ever made.

Yes, this is a fair chunk of change! But $1500 is much less than what I’ve typically sold prints of this size for in the past. So in exchange for a great deal on a large portrait that hung in a museum you’ll be helping the “Detroit Portraits” project to continue.

Thank you for considering pledging your support. You don’t have to pledge $1500….we’re getting lots of backers in the $10-100 range too. Every pledge is so important and EVERYONE who pledges receives a print back from the project.

Happy New Year!

Brian

Update #1: The Final Push

Posted on December 29

I just want to take a quick moment and thank you all that have pledged your support to this project so far. Some of you I know personally and many of you I don't. I really appreciate your trust in me and your support means the world to me.

We only have 2 days left and I'm confident we can get across the finish line. I know the holidays are a tough time to raise art funding but I've been very encouraged by the number of pledges so far. Would you mind taking a few minutes to share this project with your friends? Any pledge amount of $5 or more would be fantastic!

Happy New Year!

Brian
