For the love of tofu
I know this isn't strictly related to the project, but I'm a teacher at heart, so I believe that sharing information and new discoveries is very important.
This morning, I received a new backer alert - actually several, which was a great way to start the day! One of these backers was MOFU Soy Beanery! I first had MOFU's delicious mole tofu a little while ago from Maude's Market, a local grocery store right around the corner from me at Virginia and Meramac. I often stop by to get seasonal produce or amazing pickled beets. Doesn't this autumnal picture make you long for fall weather?
This update may start to sound like an advert, so let me share something with you from their "about" statement:
MOFU believes that local, sustainable products foster the local economy while providing the freshest flavor and greatest nutrition. MOFU is good for your body, the environment, and celebrates the Midwestern values of generosity, creativity, and hard-work.
Local. Sustainable. Creativity. Generosity. Hard work. These words are good words to live by. The Proper Residency is a platform for celebrating these values. I went to the Pruitt Igoe Now Exhibition last night, and learned about all of the innovative ways we can reuse urban spaces, and that this process is one that is community based and social in nature. Last night, Juan Chavez said something that struck me about his work with bee colonies at the Northside Project. He spoke about the bees as a group - a network, a cooperative. And this is so akin to how Kickstarter works. On my own this project wouldn't be happening, and I also feel a part of the fabric of the city - a part of a larger effort to think about our city, and our future.
The funding goal is almost reached! Then the nail biting ends and the fun part begins - putting up more tomato jam, printing tees...Thanks again everyone. I'll see you on the other side of the finish line!
P.S. MOFU will make a tofu believer out of you. It is seriously the best I have ever had.
xoxo
Angela
