Hurricane Isaac damage to the farm, greenhouse construction delayed
Hello all greenhouse supporters,
Unfortunately, Slice of Heaven Farm has taken a major hit from Hurricane Isaac. Our property in Folsom, LA is next to the little Tchefuncte river. We weathered the actual hurricane fine but the rising water in the little Tchefuncte broke two of its banks and flooded our entire 17 acre property (not to mention our whole street and neighborhood). Thankfully, we were all fine in the house which is raised off the ground. But the floodwater stayed on our crops and land for about 2 days before receding. Everything that was planted is now lost. This is a major financial and emotional loss for us. We have picked up our heads again and are going to start over with all of our crops. We are reworking the ground right now and fixing our irrigation system. We should be replanting soon.
The greenhouse project is now on the back burner as we rebuild what we lost. It ended up being a good coincidence that we were so busy before the storm and had not started the geenhouse yet because it would have flooded too. As soon as the farm is back to normal, we will begin building the greenhouse. We have the materials waiting for us to build. We can't wait till we can get back on track.
As for rewards, I apologize that most of them have been delayed because of this incident. The good news is that all of the rewards are here now (bags, aprons, etc.). I just need to package them and make it to the post office. I promise they will go out as soon as possible.
Thanks for understanding everyone!
