Quick update!

If all goes according to plan, all the pieces of the EP puzzle will be in place this week to send to Disc Makers. Once they receive the music and artwork it takes 2-3 weeks to get the finished, shrink-wrapped product!

You'll be the first to hear the date for the CD Release concert so stay tuned!

Thanks again! So pumped about how this project is turning out!

Mixing

Update #4 · Dec 8, 2010 · comment

Things are moving quickly now. This Friday we are recording group vocals and then Tuesday I'll head out to Connecticut to mix the EP with Scott Bozack. The original plan was to do all the mixing via internet, which isn't the best situation but would save money. I found a cheap flight, though, and Scott really encouraged me to make the trip out to his studio. This way we can sit in the same room at the same time, get creative, and get it all done in a matter of days, whereas the original plan would involve uploading huge files overnight, listening, making notes, send it back and forth multiple times - quite tedious.

So needless to say, I'm really excited about this new development! I'll be sure to upload some updates from the mixing sessions to keep you in on the process - it should be pretty cool.

Stay tuned!

Almost there!

Update #3 · Oct 27, 2010 · 1 comment

This month went by in a whirlwind. It's hard to believe there's only 24 hours left in this Kickstarter campaign! I just want to thank all of you - the outpouring of support has been seriously incredible.

And it looks like we might just pull this thing off.

We have under $100 to go - nice! The cool thing is, if we exceed our $2000 goal the Matter project will only get better. Depending on how much over our goal we raise, it may mean more songs on the EP (it costs about $300 per song to mix). Or it might allow us to make this an enhanced CD with videos and other goodies.

Either way, I'm so excited to move forward with this project! Here's the next few steps:

1. Throw a party down at the studio to celebrate! At the party we'll record all the $25 and up peeps singing, shouting, or clapping to the song, Matter. Can't wait for this - it's going to be a blast.

2. Finish up a couple vocal tracks of my own, a guitar part or two and some Moog noise.

3. Send the tracks to Scott Bozack to start mixing! For anyone who contributed even a dollar, I'll be sending you a couple rough mixes to preview during this process.

4. Once things are in Scott's capable hands, I'll be able to start working on the most awesome music video of the decade starring all my paper cutout friends! If you contributed $50 or more I'll be asking for a few pictures of your smiling face for this.

So now that you made this project possible, I've got some serious work to do. Honestly, I haven't been this excited about making music in a long time. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Thanks for believing in me, supporting me, and for joining me on this adventure.

Grace and peace,

Dan

You get a high-five! If you're not around to receive said high-five you may opt for an MP3 of a Matter EP B-side (it's a cover of the 80's song Don't You Want Me Baby).

  • Pledge $6 or more

    2 backers

Six bucks gets you a digital download of the Matter EP via Bandcamp.com, the B-side mp3, a Matter sticker, plus that high-five.

  • Pledge $10 or more

    7 backers

A contribution of $10 or more gets you a physical copy of the Matter EP before it is officially released, the B-side mp3, plus a Matter sticker.

    6 backers

For a contribution of $15 or more you get the MP3, the Matter EP, Matter sticker, plus my band's last album: If There's Good In This World.

For a contribution of $25 or more you get all of the above plus you get to SING BACK UP on the recording of the title track, Matter. Yeah, you and the $25 gang come into the studio and record a group vocal track. And since your voice will be on this recording your name will have to be in the liner notes. Bonus! (if you live far away we might have to Skype you in or something)

  • Pledge $50 or more

    16 backers

For a $50 contribution you get all of the above plus you (well, the paper cutout version of you) will appear in a stop-action, paper cutout MUSIC VIDEO for one of the songs from the Matter EP (like the intro video on this page).

  • Pledge $100 or more

    5 backers

For a $100 contribution you get all of the above plus I will record a cover of any song you want. You want to hear the Dan version of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme song? I'm on it. Obscure Weezer B-side? Done. Lady Gaga's Poker Face? I would secretly frown upon your taste in music, but hey, a deal's a deal.

  • Pledge $150 or more

    0 backers Limited (4 of 4 left)

For a $150 contribution you get all of the above plus I will cook dinner for you and a friend. I will also awkwardly serenade you while you tell me how good my spaghetti is. (Gotta live near St. Joe for this one)

  • Pledge $500 or more

All of the above* plus a full-on concert in your living room. Pitch in with some friends for this one! You bring the people, I'll kick the jams. *Spaghetti dinner not included.
