Romantic cards for LGBT folks - elegant B&W photos paired with a quote about love. For weddings, birthdays or to say "I love you!"
I am Dan McLellan. Awhile back, I wanted to buy a romantic card for my spouse. I hunted in card shops and
online, but nothing filled the bill. There were lots of
sharp, funny, edgy, and sexy cards out there, but I am a romantic and I wanted a romantic, tender card
to express my deep feelings for my mate. There were none
to be had. My spouse, Michael, and I are gay.
With the national trend heading toward acceptance of same
sex couples, businesses that cater to the specific needs of
the gay and lesbian community are booming. These businesses
cover the spectrum of products and services, with airlines,
retailers, financial firms, automakers, and others targeting
the gay dollar in their advertising. With new laws allowing
gay marriage on the books, the newest industry to join the
trend is the wedding industry.
But I am not consciously a trendsetter. I'm just
a man who couldn't find a product I wanted. So like many an
entrepreneur before me, I decided to create the product I couldn't find: gay wedding cards. Mixing a love for
quotes and a love for black and white photography, I created a collection of romantic gay cards and launched a
new website, Homoquotables.com, to showcase my work.
I took a few of my cards to a trade show, where the positive response led to the creation of a Zazzle Store and the website Homoquotables.com. The cards featured on Homoquotables.com are just what I was looking for and was unable to find: tender, romantic cards featuring homosexual men in love with their partners. The cards are made of high-quality paper and can be customized to suit the purchaser's needs, by displaying a variety of greetings. Any card can serve as a gay birthday card, a gay wedding card, or a gay card for another occasion in the life of a homosexual friend, family member, or lover.
My dream was to have the online store and one day have them in stores around the country. Recently, I have been approached by several stores to do just that. The only problem? The Zazzle store is not set up for wholesale. I need to have cards printed. the smallest batch I can have done is 250 of each card. With 24 designs, that comes to 2000. Once I have a starting inventory, I can then use money from those sales to print more.... and hopefully more and more and more! My dream is that many gay couples are able to give and get cards on important days that reflect the beauty of their relationship.
Once I have the initial funds, the presses are ready to roll! I can't wait for my donors here to be the first recipients of these cards!
