The Virginia Sustainable Agriculture Documentary Project explores sustainable food in central Virginia through photography. I began the project in spring 2009, visiting numerous farms, restaurants, families, markets, gardens and more throughout Virginia. I am now ready to publish the photographs and stories in a hardcover edition.

I began the project because I was interested in local and organic food--and what it actually meant for food and agriculture to be sustainable. So I started looking at small local farms and community gardens because they produced the most visibly sustainable food. I then followed the food from the farm or garden to the market, restaurant, and families consuming the food.

The book will include 50 photographs and interviews with families and growers, including their views on sustainability, cost, and creating a "new food economy." A short essay detailing my observations on sustainable food will also support the photographs.

The funds raised through Kickstarter will cover the design, layout and printing of at least 100 hardcover books. In order to receive the funds, the project must be fully funded by December 1. Please make a pledge and help spread the word.
