We've launched an exciting new project of our own! Introducing the Kickstarter app for iPhone!

Funded! This project successfully raised its funding goal on March 2, 2012.

Photo-main

Help four collaborating artists finish an interactive installation inspired by the exquisite corpse.

Vanity of Vanities is an installation of three related sculptures:

  • Wheel of Vanity, an exquisite corpse that rotates to recombine images.

  • Vanna T, an exquisite corpse based on a dress form.

  • Vanna's Head, built from parts contributed by the artists.

The artists invite you to get involved through two opportunities:

  • Send small, meaningful objects for inclusion in the installation. There's an address for that, below. You won't get these objects back, but you'll get your name on the Vanity or on the stand under Vanna's Head as a supporter.
  • Send $$$, get rewards. Details on the side bar.

Yes, you may do both.

The first target for this installation is Vanity Fare, hosted by the GoggleWorks in Reading, PA. We'll know by the end of February whether the work has been accepted; the show opens in May of 2012.

After that, we'll try to show as much as possible for the next two years.

If you want to send us stuff (we'll use it whether or not we meet funding, and give you due credit) then plop it in a USPS Priority Mail Small Box and direct it here:

      MDIM
      1621 Sycamore Ave
      Lancaster, PA 17601

You may use an envelope or padded mailer if you like, but we want to keep these objects small-ish.

FAQ

Just what is an exquisite corpse? It is a specific literary form, but has been adopted by artists of all stripes to describe a type of collaboration in which every contributor  works on the problem, and then the results are mashed up to create a new view of the work.

Who is MDIM? That would be Michael Dennis, Idea Monkey. Since Michael has been in business as a graphic artist since 2002, MDIM is the most convenient way to handle money and taxes for this project. There are serious fiduciary responsibilities that go with fundraising through KickStarter and Amazon Payments.
