Update #8: Thank you for your support!
With less than 20 hours remaining to meet our fundraising goal on Kickstarter, we of course, as always, remain optimistic. I know that even if we do not reach our goal here, we will, at the end of the day, complete this film.
Those who have dedicated their time and resources, thank you. We will keep everyone posted on our progress.
A very special thank you to our colleagues and friends in Haiti for their constant support as they battle to locate, secure, and maintain medical resources for the people of Haiti.
Lastly, as you know, If a project does not reach its goal on Kickstarter, all pledges will be returned to the credit card of the person who pledged. All of your pledges should be returned to you within a couple of days.
Please continue to visit our web-site and blog to follow our progress or find us on FaceBook, where we post regular updates as well. Our project can also be directly linked to on the International Documentary Association (IDA) website, where you can make a tax deductible donation at http://documentary.org/fsp/3335 or via our projects website by clicking on donate.
We will be moving forward with our new funding initiatives and will keep all of you posted. Thank you once again for your support!
From the Conversations With the Living Team.
Have a wonderful day!

Update #7: Vodou and Western Medicine
Kathy Smith, PhD, discusses how vodou addresses disease and whether traditional vodou can be reconciled with Western medicine.
Update #6: What is Vodou?
Vodou has been misrepresented in Western culture, especially in the popular media (news, cinema, books, etc.). This short clip is a basic introduction to Haitian Vodou and explains some of its roots and the roles of the hougan and mambo (priest and priestess).
Enjoy and please share this video and other "Conversations With the Living" videos with others.
Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
The Conversations With the Living Team
Update #5: A conversation with Michael Gottlieb
Dr. Michael Gottlieb was the first physician to deal with and diagnose HIV/AIDS in 1981. We interviewed Dr. Gottlieb for "Conversations with the Living: Globalization and the Haitian AIDS Crisis", as an expert on HIV/AIDS who shared with us nearly three decades of experience, domestically and globally, and helped us explore the link between HIV/AIDS and poverty in developing countries like Haiti.
HIV is just one of the many struggles of the Haitian people, and we thank you for helping us tell their story.
Please spread the word about this project.
Update #4: Bois Caïman and the vodou revolution
According to tradition, the Haitian Revolution was initiated on 14 August 1791 when Dutty Boukman presided over a vodou ceremony that came to be known as Bois Caïman. The Haitians went on to defeat Napoleon's forces thanks to leaders such as Toussaint L'Ouverture and Jean-Jacques Dessalines (both pictured towards the end of the short).
