We are thrilled that our multigenerational company, Dances For A Variable Population, has been invited to the legendary Jacobs Pillow Dance Festival to be part of their 80th Anniversary Festival.  This performance is an opportunity for us to share our work, featuring its unusual interactions between older and younger bodies, with international dance audiences and the wider field of dance.  As the modern dance community grows, and as our whole population ages, we think it is critically important for performances by diverse bodies to take their place on the international dance stage.

Dances For A Variable Population has been invited to perform at the historic Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival on June 21, 2012.  We plan to perform FANFARE, an interactive dance work originally commissioned for the LMCC Sitelines/River To River Festival in 2009.  Set to Michael Nyman's brass compositions, FANFARE captures the diversity and multifaceted abilities of our multigenerational performers ages 24 – 90.  This signature work was originally presented as a site-specific piece created and timed for the arrival and departure of the ferries at the Whitehall Terminal for Staten Island.  We are reconfiguring it for Jacob's Pillow's remarkable outdoor stage which overlooks the Berkshire mountains.  Audience members will be invited to join us on stage for a collaborative finale.

While Jacob’s Pillow offers a modest performance fee, it only covers a fraction of our expenses.  Your support will enable us to remount this dance at Jacob’s Pillow, covering travel accommodations and performers’ rehearsal and performance fees, detailed below:

Dancer performance fees: $750 

Dancer rehearsal fees: $1,250

Rehearsal space rental: $150

Car rentals (2 cars for two days): $330

Gas expenses for 3 cars: $120

Accommodations (6 rooms @ $140 double occupancy): $700

TOTAL $3,300
