About this project

Our Goal:
In September 2010, the collaborative project Earthbound Moon (EbM) will be installing our inaugural sculpture near the town of Bledsoe, Texas. The funding we are seeking will cover the artist's fabrication and installation costs. Once the sculpture is installed, the artwork and land will be publicly accessible.

The Sculpture:
We have chosen a Danish artist, Heidi Hove, to design and install the work. Her work will be a large solar powered Welcome sign that will light up in the mostly empty high plains of west Texas, and will be visible from a nearby highway. The sign will act as a structural representation, a declaration, of the community of Bledsoe. Despite economic and environmental challenges, it is a place where community, art and social development exist. We're very excited to have Heidi come to the United States and install the work with her. More about Heidi can be found at: www.heidihove.com

A Little About Us:
EbM is a non-contiguous sculpture garden, discrete parcels of land spaced across the face of the Earth, each parcel the home to a publicly accessible sculpture. Each artwork is site specific -- imagined, built and installed by an artist engaged with the site and the community's experience of the work. Our goals for EbM are to benefit local communities, challenge and inspire artists across mediums and create a work of contemporary art unto itself. We are currently being fiscally sponsored by an amazing non-profit art space in San Francisco, The Lab: www.thelab.org. Since the Lab is a 501(c)3 organization, all pledges made to this project are tax deductible. All donors to the project will be listed on an informational plaque that will be located on the property near the sign.

Please help us reach our goal of installing our first sculpture this fall. We hope to ultimately to develop sites like Bledsoe worldwide - creating a web of community and art that surrounds the earth.
