I will be showing the "Traveling Trashball" illustrated series at this years ArtPrize event in Grand Rapids, MI.  I am asking for funding to frame, transport and install the large scale illustrations that will be on display during this event.

In this series of illustrations, I imagine how a fictional sentient creature could evolve from the breezy garbage filled streets of a contemporary city environment. This “Trashball” will find itself overwhelmed and confused by this environment and thus begin to question its very existence. With this as my premise, I develop a story that encourages questions about our environment and the by-products that come from it. I encourage audience participation by offering a place on the "Traveling Trashball" website for submissions about what should happen next or total spin-offs from the story.  I will be illustrating these submissions and posting them on the site with the authors name and (optional) info.

This work seeks to make the everyday problematic by creating an exaggerated reality that re-contextualizes the waste materials that become unseen in the everyday environment. The exaggerated and anthropomorphic qualities of “Trashball” allow for a playful approach to this task. Trashball invites the viewer into a whimsical narrative that encourages one to enter into a larger dialog about environmental concerns often obscured by practical everyday life.
