Update #10: Opening Next Week!
This is a very busy and exciting time of year here for everyone involved with Mum's. Last Saturday Lauren and I where married at the English Manor in Ocean Township. So Mum's is officially being run by a husband and wife team. This morning we passed our final inspection and we are getting ready to open next week. At Mum's we will ONLY be carrying Jersey grown produce. For early June this eliminates the melons, peaches, apples, sweet corn and many other late summer favorites. They simply aren't grown this time of year in the state. However here is a fairly complete list of what our farmers will be offering in the next week or two.
- Spinach
- Golden beets
- Endive
- Escarole
- Collards
- Cilantro
- Arugula
- Beet
- Golden beet
- Boston
- Dill
- Kale
- Green leaf
- Red leaf
- Radish
- Romaine
- Red swiss
- Spring mix
- Chive
- Mint
- Plain parsley
- Green swiss
- Dandelion
- Leeks
- Rainbow swiss
- Iceberg
- Green onions
- Kohlrabi
- Broccoli
- Cabbage
- Tomatoes
- Strawberries
- Carrots
- Asparagus
- Honey
- Ramapo Tomato
- Mortgage lifter Tomato
- Cabbage
- Broccoli
- XL eggs
- Strawberry
We cannot carry all of this at our location at any one time, so if you have any favorites please let us know. We will also have crafts from local artisans, and hope to be certified as a commercial kitchen so we can offer some Gluten Free baked goods. Thats all for now, more details to come.

Update #9: Opening Soon!
Happy May Mum’s Produce backers and fans. We have had a wonderful spring over here on Evil Monkey Farm. We will officially be opening in early June on 6 Church Street in downtown Allentown across from La Piazza. We also plan on having grand opening to meet everyone who supported us. This store would not be possible without all of you. By now you should have received any Mum’s Merchandise you have earned. I have been keeping my eyes peeled trying to see that first Mum’s shirt or bag around town. Those of you who chose the produce voucher as a reward should be receiving them via email soon.
We are also lucky to have been contacted by more local farmers and artisans. We are always looking for great stock for the store. Remember, we are only selling locally grown produce. Our stock will be changing with the seasons. In early June expect fresh lettuces, beats, asparagus, peas and strawberries, as well as whatever else we can get our hands on. We will also be carrying milk, eggs and bread so locals can save themselves a trip and buy local all summer. One of our generous backers Cristina Castro Pelka is donating her considerable skills as web designer and making us a page that I will do my best to keep updated with the latest stock so you will always know what is on hand. Check out some of her other fantastic work here;

We have also decided on the hours for our little store. We will be open 10-6 Tuesday through Saturday, open 10-3 on Sundays and closed on Mondays. While parking on the street is tight in front of the store, the municipal lot is less then 400 feet away and it never hurts to walk through our wonderful town. We have also partnered with Square to handle our credit card processing, which will not only allow us to take traditional cards but also allow for some neat options for our tech savvy customers.

Well that’s all for now, keep an eye out for our next update with an opening date for the summer!

Update #8: Happy Leap Day
Hello Backers,
I know not everyone is on Facebook so I thought I would send out a note to let people know of our progress. We have agreed to terms with the owners of 6 Church St. If the landlords do not find a full time renter for the property by May we will be setting up shop there for the summer. We are keeping our fingers crossed and planning for our grand opening.
Some of our backers have expressed interest in potted plants and seedlings. We have contacted several of the local greenhouses and are confident that we can make an arrangement to bring in some of their unique products. We are also getting our small “farm” ready for the spring and hope to grow some of the more interesting heirloom vegetable seedlings right here. However, since Mum’s Produce won’t be open till June I suggest our backers support the community by purchasing their spring seedlings from an organization such as 4H or the local FFA branch. 4H is currently having their spring tree and shrub sale.

We have also recently obtained our license to sell milk and are looking for the most local milk supplier possible. This is proving challenging with the strict regulation of milk distribution within the state. However, you can be certain that we will carry a full line of milk products right downtown for your convenience.
We are also well underway producing our rewards for our backers. It is turning out that our backers are not only generous but also talented. Elise has made us an amazing new logo that will adorn our shirts and shopping totes. Check it out below. We hope to have the rewards delivered by April. We are also working on a website where we will be able to post future updates and that can act as a reference to our future stock.
That’s all the news we have for now, until next time keep in touch through Kickstarter or our Facebook page.

Happy weekend,
Dan, Lauren and Mumford
Update #7: Our (Almost) Home
Hello Backers,
I hope the winter is treating you all well. We have been making slow progress with Mum’s these last few weeks. We currently have an offer in on 6 Church St. The numbers are agreed upon, but the owner is not yet sure he is willing to rent for less then a year. I am optimistic that this will work out. The properties on Church are the may be the last vacancies left in the town other then the bakery. I have been told that the hardware store is currently working on an agreement with a tenant, and the Mill property will not be ready by the summer. I do recommend that everyone read the wonderful story in the Examiner about Corky’s struggles opening up the Mill property, and his great plans for the future.
Thanks to Kickstarter we have most of your shirt sizes and addresses, for your rewards. A wonderful local graphic artist Elise Hollandsworth Hartmann, has agreed to help us spruce up our logo. You can see her work on her Etsy site.

The stickers are ordered and should be here soon. They will use the original logo seen below.
We also have some good news when it comes to our stock. We have found a source of local organic eggs that we hope to carry. We also found a small scale grower from south jersey who specializes in unique pepper varieties to spice things up. I am still looking for a suitable local bakery that will deliver, so if anyone has a favorite please pass it on. That is all for now, enjoy the weekend!
