About this project
The Project: A seasonal produce store selling only locally grown produce in Allentown New Jersey.
The Funds: We need $2,000 dollars to build fixtures, pay for rent, and provide refrigeration in our shop slated to open in June 2012. We calculate that this will bring us to the break even point. We will not be able to open the store without your help!
Why: We believe that supporting small town America means creating sustainable businesses that promote community values. We believe that one should not have to drive 15 minutes to a super center to pick up "wholesome" food for dinner.
The Story: Mum's Produce is a proposed seasonal community produce stand in the hamlet of Allentown, NJ. Allentown is a historic township that is currently bordered by both farmland and suburbia. Allentown has been hit hard by the recent recession and hurricane Irene last summer. Main Street has many shuttered storefronts. A commercial anchor of main street, a large historic mill that once held a popular restaurant and shops was damaged by the storm, its future in doubt. (Update: This looks like it will reopen soon! A great boost to the town) We would like to create a shop that brings nearby farm fresh produce onto Main Street, a short walk for most residents. New Jersey has nearly 10,000 farms, and those farmers deserve to be known for something more then fist pumping. Mum's Produce believes that you should know where your food comes from, and where your money is going. Please help us revitalize a town, support local farmers, and raise awareness of local food by making a small contribution.
