I run my own graphic design business in Champaign, Illinois. I started my career in the mid 80s working in the corporate design group at Burson-Marstellar in New York. We came to Champaign in order for me to get my masters degree in graphic design, and we never left.
My reintroduction to letterpress, through collecting wood type, has created a path to this venture of creating a virtual letterpress with my good friend and programmer, Jeff Adams. Along with this, I'm establishing a letterpress co-op in my community to offer access to those interested in working with wood type and traditional print methods.
Nicole, please send me your the email address you used to register with Kickstarter--to john@bonadiescreative.com
I have not claimed my iPad app yet, because I don't recall seeing an email with a gift code. Help?
Hey! I don't have an Ipad, I have an Imac and an Iphone...that is enough for me for now anyways! Will you be making a version for either of those, preferably a mac computer? That would be excellent:)
I never received an email with any code or way to download LettMpress. I recieved my Shirt. Love it. But my iPad2 is jealous. Help would be appreciated.
Actually, John, I tried the PC first...no luck, but did succeed*yay* going right to my iPad. Gracias!
Diana, you need to be on a wifi network. It's best for you to download from your PC and then Sync to your ipad
Arrgh. iTunes will not let me download...
For the record... I downloaded the app directly on my iPad 2 over wifi with no problems. Maybe the problems are linked to iPad 1?
Unfortunately I don't get the app with the gift code. iTunes says it only works in the US store. Any suggestions?
Got may app this morning and cant put it down, as a letterpress printer, you did a wonderful job.
sorry john, forget the last message. I received the code in my secondary email, all right now. thanks
John, i didn't receive the gift code. Can you resend?
Congrats!
Can't wait. This is going to be a very exciting app
Jeroen: Thanks! Yes, we're implementing a new letterpress with rotating handle and ink rollers.
I know you will also be using the fund for better 3D graphics.
Please make sure that when the press is rolling the swivel is turning to (rotating along with the pressroll) Thank you! Great product! Can't wait to get my hands on it!
Congratulations John!
Thank you so much for sharing your vision and bringing the art of (digital) letterpress to the iPad. Looking forward to the official release of the app!!!
Congratulations!
As a letterlover I just inmediately loved your project. Greetings from Holland!
Really excited about this app, and also excited to have been a small part of making it happen. Thank you for your work. We're all going to enjoy it so much!
John, sincere congratulations! So excited for you and more for this product that I believe in! I am a graphic designer and lover of letterpress. I publish miniature books that are 3 inches or smaller. I have big plans for letterMpress and can't wait for it. Never backed anything before so this is pretty exciting. You go man!
You deserve it. Congrats!
Congrats on your project!
Congratulations on the successful funding of your terrific project. 'Good luck' with everything!
(And if you have a few dollars left over, feel free to contribute to ours!) :)

Hi John,
I dont have an iPad yet but can i pledge 2 times of "PLEDGE $10 OR MORE" (that's $10 x 2)?
Thanks
it's really a horrible day as I saw this project, because I'm doing a similar app for my FMP~! but still can't stop to pledge it, really a good thing to have. Good luck~!
When will it be on the app store?????
And how mutch money will it cost?????
I believe project funding, when exceeded, is a gift to the developer to do with as they wish. I will politely add anyone considering pledging has the info of where funding currently is at (just look to your right) as well as has the option of not pledging. If the proposed project is developed as promised (in this case an app for iPad), then all is well even it funding goes one million times over.
With this particular project, each pledge goes towards, at minimum, one copy of the LetterMPress app. So you could look at this like a "pre-order." By comparison, I don't think Adobe or Microsoft have ever been questioned what they do with their product sales. (On the flip side, if JB ends up selling it for less than $10 when it is released, that is up to him. You are making a pledge to get this thing out there, not making a purchase at a locked-in retail price.)
Additional backing for any Kickstarter project could be used to further develop a project beyond the original proposal. In this case JB could voluntarily take LetterMPress to a whole new creative level beyond current plans (if that's possible), develop other versions of it for other platforms (Mac OS desktop anyone?), fund an advertising and marketing campaign for the app, pay prior bills for prior development time and materials before this Kickstarter project page was launched, or take a well-deserved vacation in the Bahamas (which would in effect spawn more creativity). There is also the chance that JB could have underestimated the funds needed for this project, either out of error (overrun costs) or through the desire to keep it as low as possible and hoping the 15K would be reached. Little did he know.
Just some thoughts and perspectives on why it's totally okay for a project to go over. It should be welcomed.
Congratulations on an absolutely AWESOME idea!!! Also, I really would love to see this program available for windows users.. Goodluck! =D
Eddy G: We plan to have as much type and cuts as we possibly can in the iPad app, and as the video states, we'll use the additional funds to help with scanning and image processing. Other platforms will be considered after we release LetterMpress for the iPad. Your statement of questioning the "rightness" of backing a project that has surpassed its goal is totally up to you. We were thrilled, and thankful to the Kickstarter community, to have just reached our goal. And while 200+% is more than we expected, we are by no means unique, as other projects have surpassed their goals by 500-1000% and more.
Now that the project is funded in excess of 200% of the goal (with 23 days still to go!) I'm curious what the plans are for all the additional funds. The title specifically says "on your iPad", so I'm curious if the extra money will be used to obtain and "digitize" extra typefaces and *included* in the iPad app for free (instead of for an extra in-app purchase) or what. If excess funding is going to be used to hire programmers to support other platforms (e.g. Android) instead of making the iPad app better than originally planned and/or available sooner, then it doesn't seem right to back a project for "your iPad".
I am thrilled to be a backer of this wonderful project! I don't have an iPad, but I will purchase one just for this app. There is a book called Little Book of Letterpress by Charlotte Rivers and she has a resource list at the back of the book that you may want to explore. Perhaps you could work with museums like Hamilton in Two Rivers, Wisconsin to increase your selection of typefaces. The museum was featured in a wonderful film called Type Face. Here's the link to Hamilton's web site: http://www.woodtype.org/whats_new.shtml. Wishing you every success, John!
Hello! I am a graphic design student in Boston and I must say I am more than excited for your app!! It is SO COOL! Sadly I don't have an ipad. I was wondering, have you guys considered making this a website or software available for regular computers? If you did, I know I would buy it or use the site frequently. Good luck with everything!
I'm looking forward to getting the new iPad and having such a cool App to work on it with. Congrats!
Will this app be compatible with iPhone as well?
Keen would love to get you guys online when you are ready to sell physical printing: http://keenprint.com - get in touch with me for any questions!
And another thing, handsetting of type was placed left to right in a composing stick. It is being set "upside down" by being right side up. Reading was upside down, but, as normal, left to right.
This project, other than for entertainment, appears to me, who started in the trade in 1951 in Winnipeg, Canada, as though we are putting horseshoes onto a Prius.
Amazing project
Knock on Wood (Type) John ! Your contributing to a better world (my point of view).
From Paris, France. David.
I am so happy to see so many people behind this project.
I link it on my blog to help get the word out more

I am an advanced local scrapbook store in Princeton, IL and have mac based equipment for my digital crafters, designers, and customers. I currently carry 12x12 scrapbook paper that is a "photograph" impression of word press letters from vendors like Design Originals, Tim Holtz, various doppelganger fonts in rubber stamps- but WOW, this is a great APP and I'm in. sign me up!
John, Congrats! Sounds like it will be a great app. I wouldIike to make you aware of the Hamilton wood type museum north of you on Lake Michigan in my home town of Two Rivers, WI. They have thousands of styles of type as they used to be produced here. Perhaps a relationship could be developed with the museum. Their website is www.woodtype.org. Good luck, I look forward to using this app in my artwork!
This is a FANTASTIC idea!! I love letterforms!! I just shared it with all my typophile/designer friends, I hope they back it too!
THIS IS SOOOOO COOL!!!! Best of luck!!
I think this is a wonderful endeavor, and have pledged $10. Should an android based application come from this, I will be more than willing to pledge an extra $25.
Hey for $15k+ you should release the letter graphics under creative commons! It's the right thing to do and it will give your software a huge boost in publicity in the (influential) 'techy' crowd.
Will this eventually also be available for other Mac platforms such as the MacBook Pro? This looks like a terrific app and I'd love to try it out.
I have been in printing for over 25 years - both conventional and offset. I may be able to supply you with a vast selection of typefaces for your venture. What you are doing is great.

I've been interested in letterpress for a long time. I bought a small handpress and fell in love with letterpress. I am excited about this app and I can't wait to try it out in person!
John, congratulations on not only hitting your goal in a matter of days, but of far surpassing it! I was hoping this project would get the press it deserved, and I'm so excited the word has spread. I think you're doing a wonderful thing for letterpress exposure, and I can't wait to use the community facility you've set up. Thanks again for all your hard work on this!!
