"Ferris Bueller's Day Off" meets "Dumb and Dumber" meets "Fletch" A comedy script in need of professional editing and representation.

Backstory:

I have worked on this screenplay for the last four years after rolling ideas around in my head for several years before that. I began this quest by writing a quick and dirty storyboard with absolutely no forethought to what should happen from one scene to the next. Most of the time, that would probably be a dangerous way to lead yourself into plot-holes, boring story filler, and a story without direction. Luckily, in this case, these ideas have formed a screenplay that has a real cohesive storyline without taking itself too seriously.

From the moment I started writing, I almost couldn't stop. Within a week after first setting my fingers to the keys, my very rough storyboard was complete. Based on those ideas and storyboards, I began writing the actual screenplay using professional software that has aided me in formatting and presentation.

The screenplay is nearing completion, but I have little time to edit it, contact potential agents, and actually sell the dang thing so that the words on my computer screen can be put onto the silver screen where they belong.

I know that $5000.00 sounds like a lot, and in most cases, it probably would be more than enough. There are a lot of projects on Kickstarter that have funding goals that are a lot lower, especially for what essentially boils down to merely writing and selling, but I feel like this project is a real winner. Those trusted few friends and mentors that have read parts of the screenplay have been seen in fits of laughter. This project deserves to be given its fair shot.

When titles like "Epic Movie" and "Jack and Jill" are green-lit and seen by millions, you know that the world is in dire need for good comedy.

What your funding will do for this project:

The funds from this project, fully funded, will allow me to take a sabbatical from my job (and buy a lock for my office door, sorry honey!) so that I can put the finishing touches on the screenplay, and start using some of my contacts to get in touch with the right people to make this dream a reality. It will help pay travel, copyrighting, and printing costs for the screenplay, as well.

Timeline with 100% funding:

1. Finish "Al and Bart Have a Good Time" by telling my wife that I am going on an extended business trip, but then really just locking myself in my office and handcuffing myself to the desk. Keeping food and drink out of arm's reach will be sure to help motivate me towards completion. Who knows, dehydration and nutrition deprivation might make it even funnier!

2. Have a respected editing agency or two go through the screenplay to check for any grammatical errors (unlikely), plot-holes (impossible), and, in the interest of public safety, to make sure that the screenplay isn't too funny. Check out the history of Chrysippus; death by laughter is ironically no laughing matter.

3. Once the screenplay has been edited and perfected, I will use the remaining money to gain an agent to get "Al and Bart" read by the right people and sold.

4. The movie is released to rave reviews, prompting several people in The Academy to question whether they even need to nominate other movies in the year for Best Picture or whether the winner will already be a forgone conclusion.

If the funding goes well above the goal, I will be able to push that much harder and contact even better people so that we end up with a movie more like "Fletch" and less like "Fletch Lives!" The future of comedy is in your hands!
