About this project
I would like to create a series of 12 paintings over the span of one year from a single source, a photograph taken of my father. The paintings would be created as an interactive process between myself, the creation of my work, and how my subject's emotions and acts combine as a sort of temporal causality loop. By re-visiting a stagnant subject (a single photo) combined with interactions with a man who is indicative of his eventual end, I will show an uncompromising view of the substance of the subject's life. As a comparative piece, it will reflect only how the artist's view on his subject has changed, since the subject is existing in a linear time and place. By prohibiting any change in the subject, any change noted only resides within the art.
At the 12 month mark, which will be exactly one year after my funding goal has been raised, I will book a gallery to showcase my work. Each painting will have an estimated completion time of 50 hours, which means it will take me 600 hours of work to complete this, not to mention the time invested in making my canvases and researching. The reason for my funding is to take a day off each week to work on this project, and I assure you that my goal will be nothing but completing this. I will be eating ramen noodles, cans of soup, and plently of water most of the time. There's a reason the term is " starving artist ", your funding will go only towards purchasing paint, canvas, wood, and booking a showcase.

You will also receive my published thesis detailing this project in all of its stages in book form. My name is Alexander Sewell and I'm a young painter Boston, Massachusetts. For the time being I am representing myself, which can be a hassel at times and quite an adventure at others. I primarily work with the figure, and earn my bread and butter doing portrait work and select commissions. I have had very postive reception from my work so far in Boston, and have since shown in Provincetown, as well as Chelsea in NYC. I have since had the privelege of working with many talented artists as I continue toward success. I push myself to execute paintings with a certain aplomb, and while the hours are long and weary, I wouldn't have it any other way. As a wise man once said, find something you love to do, and you'll never have to work another day in your life
