THE PROJECT: HAVA                                                                        World Premiere of "HAVA" a one woman show by April Hava Shenkman

DESCRIPTION of HAVA: A hybrid performance of Art & Comedy, exploring the pursuit of happiness. “HAVA,” (translating to “LIFE” in Hebrew), sees life in 2012, as an extended New Year’s Eve party, to the re-beginning of the world in 2013. Twenty years after making her first stage début, Hava enters a new, radical era of comedy, taking on the oath of a “true clown.” Hava channels the Comedy Queens of Hollywood’s golden age, for advice & wisdom. Voyage to Havawood, in this musical comedy cake, called “Life.”

I've been invited to be the First Artist in Residence at ATWATER CROSSING (www.atwatercrossing.com) to present my new solo show: HAVA, that I've been developing since the start of 2012. I applied for several artist grants to support HAVA, but was unsuccessful. Now, without any budget, I'm in great need of financial support! 

With less then 3 weeks before the opening JULY 1st, I've decided to do a Quick Campaign, humbly asking for your support, to allow me, to see my project through successfully, on all grounds.  

I hope to raise a minimum of $800 which is the bare essentials needed for my production expenses. I'm hoping to raise over that, but due to the KickStarter guidelines, of having to meet a minimum; I choose a minimum of $800, based on this break-down below:

Set & Prop needs: 

Blue Velvet fabric, so I can make Curtains (this is the main set vision I have for this show) $100 - $150

Paint for set pieces & props: $100

Wood for construction of props: $50 - $75

Misc. smaller Props: $50 - $100

Publicity:

Postcards, Posters, & possibly a banner: $150 - $200

Costume & Make-up: $150

Transportation: (I have a 35 mile commute from my home to the venue, each way & with the CA gas prices ranging from $4.09 - $4.50 (depending on the week) 5 performances, 5-8 rehearsals / tech  and promotion in Los Angeles.. to span over 6 weeks

I'm estimating $150 - $200 

Kickstarter & Amazon Fees & Reward supplies  (which include DVD pressings) & postage: $150 - $200

Totaling between: $800 - $1,000, 

It is my GOAL to raise at least $800 by the first day of summer, June 20th, 2012  If I raise at least $800, my production will be funded, & I'll be able work & perform with less stress & more happiness! 

Why this project is important: I haven't done a concentrated full length solo performance (1 hr. in length) for a couple years now. I do my best work, when working on a concentrated full production. This will be my 6th original full length production. This project is also a great opportunity for me as an artist, since it runs for 5 consecutive weeks. This allows me the opportunity to really hone the material, find a flow & rhythm & reach a larger audience. It is my goal that once this show is developed (after this run) to take it on tour, nationally & eventually, internationally.

April Hava Shenkman: (a.k.a. “Hava”) Los Angeles Performance Artist, Avant-garde Comedian, & Actress, has been performing original works of theatre & comedy in L.A. for over a decade now. After studying acting at The Guildford School of Acting in England, Hava worked with Rachel Rosenthal & Co. in L.A. for several years. Hava is the creator of THE HAPPY HAPPY SHOW (ran weekly @ El Cid, & the web series). Currently, she is producing her second comedy art web series, HAVA calendar 2012, a new video is released the 1st of each month, entitled the month.
