About this project

Everyone's cancer story is different. Mine is more different than most. I was 27 when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had no risk factors, no family history, no other health problems, and no reason to think this would ever happen to me.

I have a collection of breast cancer monologues that I'd like to publish, with help from all of you! Since I wasn't the typical breast cancer patient, these are not the typical breast cancer stories. Some are funny. Some are sad. Some are painful. And some are inspiring. But all are true, and I'm offering them up to all of you.

Think the Vagina Monologues, but for breast cancer. :)

The stories include:

Checking Out the Goods in the Chemo Room: A brief crush on a fellow patient.
Dress Code: A well-meaning charity gave me a mess of a hospital gown. Hilarity ensued.
Him: Breaking up is hard to do. Especially when you have cancer.
Soap Opera Fantasy Land: How I ended up writing death threats to the Head Writer of General Hospital. :)
Whipping Off the Wig: Wigs can be used to scare little boys and to piss off old ladies. Who knew?
My Orange Tic Tac: I was one of the lucky ones. But that didn't mean my peers weren't dying.
What the Hell's a Hot Flash?: Menopause at 27. What the hell?
Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup... ATTACK!: A tumor visualization story.
My Cat Can Play the Harp and Other Non Sequiturs: When you just lay in bed all day, you gain the kind of random knowledge you can't talk about with others. Not without sounding like a complete crazy person.
Mistaken Identity: Waiting room strangers kept praising me for supporting my mom during this hard time. But she deserved the praise.

There are more, but this should give you an idea of what to expect. I'll be posting little excerpts in the project updates.
What If Your Writing Sucks?
Well, it's all subjective of course. :) But I am a professional writer and editor, and have been for about 11 years now. "Whipping Off the Wig" has been published before in compilation of cancer stories, and was received very well. I am happy that I retain the rights and can share it with all of you.
Why Do You Need $993?
I need your help to pay for publishing, copyright, and marketing costs. I'm going the self-publishing route to maximize profit, so I can donate more to charity in the grand scheme of things.
Who Will Benefit?
Once the book is published, it'll be available all over the world, giving young actresses contemporary monologues to perform, and sharing the story of breast cancer in young women. A percentage of proceeds will benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the Young Survival Coalition.

This project has an enormous potential for growth. I can't wait for you all to join me!!!
