About this project
READ THE FIRST CHAPTER IN THE PROJECT UPDATES!
I am a published author disenchanted with the current publishing industry. I have three books published professionally by Penguin, but I am working on another novel titled OUT that I think has the potential to open up an important dialogue regarding the issue of same-sex marriage/equality. It is a young adult novel, with appeal to a broader audience. The story takes place in an alternative world where parallels (those who love others of the same gender) run the government as a theocracy, and the perpendiculars (those who love others of a different gender) are outcasts, sent to reconditioning camps to be normalized. Chris Bryant, the son of a high-profile Anglicant minister, discovers his perpendicular sexuality, and has to grapple with his loyalty to his father and his church versus his new-found love for Carmen, a member of the underground group that hopes to change the social fabric of the world in which they live.
I would like to finish and publish this novel (it is 40 percent complete) and get it into the hands of those who would benefit from reading it. Mainstream publishing plays it too safe these days, and I want to create the novel I want to create. Rewards: I will publish segments of OUT on the Kickstart blog and track the progress of the novel as it is written, including reaction and photos/video of stages readings and reactions. If I receive full funding, I will also acknowledge backers in the dedication page of the book if they want their names to be made public. See the rewards profiles for more complete details.
