Birds of a Whimsical Feather by artist and illustrator LEX Covato
This is a year long project in which I will create quirky Birdie illustrations and share them with kickstarter donors and the general public. Birdie is a name for a group of bird based characters which I have been illustrating with in the past 6 months to a year. As an illustrator I enjoy telling stories through my paintings. My paintings are odd, humorous, and often carry deep commentary. Birdie is a simplistic character yet acts as the perfect vehicle for relating to audiences and expressing ideas. I would like to do two things with Birdie and this project: 1. let Birdie evolve and explore it's range and potential 2. start a monthly art subscription bringing art into the homes and offices of larger audiences. An art subscription would work like a magazine subscription. People would know the basis of the subscription but be surprised with something brand new each month. This would allow more people to collect limited edition art, narrow the gap between the "gallery goer" and the general public, and simply give collectors something to look forward to each month.
I will paint feverishly each month and select the most interesting of the Birdie creations to turn into an archival print. Those who support the project can follow it on my blog. The images will eventually make their way to my website and to my tent in festivals. If a donor subscribes to 6 or 12 months they will receive the 1st edition run of the print of the month. Just like buying a vinyl toy or trading cards it will be an exciting surprise to open the package you receive in the mail. All prints are archival and signed which will give subscribers a start on collecting and investing in art.

Materials such as watercolors, ink, acrylic, illustration board, watercolor paper, wood, gesso, brushes, etc.
printing costs- archival prints done by a print vendor with archival pigment and paper.
Cellophane print bags and foam-core backing.

The only hard part is picking which one you want. They are numbered 1, 2, 3. You can email me your selection number when the project is funded. Each of my prints are archival and bear my signature.

For a $65 pledge, you will receive the first two 8”x 10” prints in the new series. For each of the first two months, a surprise bird will arrive in your mail. Each print is archival and will be signed by me.

At this pledge level you will receive six of the 8” x 10” prints in the series. That means a new bird will fly into your mailbox every other month. All prints are archival and will be signed by me.

For an extra $50, you get all six of the 8” x 10” prints from the $125 level, plus one original 5” x 7” painting of a bird in the color of your choosing. You pick a color and I’ll deliver your custom bird painting. Everything you receive will be archival and will bear an original signature.

For this pledge, you receive a year’s worth of whimsical birds. That’s all twelve of 8” x 10” prints in the series – a new bird print landing with your mail every month. All prints are archival and signed by me.

A year of birds is awesome, so why not get one more? For and extra $50, you pick up an original 8” x 10” bird painting in a color of your choosing, as well as the twelve months of bird prints from the $250 level delivered to your home or office. The original painting and all twelve prints are archival and bear my signature.

For the true art collector / bird enthusiast out there. One lucky pledge earns you all twelve originals from the series. Each original painting will be unique in size and materials used, but all will be signed by me, finished off and ready to hang. At the end of the project you will receive all twelve paintings – enough to build your own aviary for the arts.

LEX Covato is a US based artist. Her background is in illustration, fine art, and art history. Private collectors in the USA as well as abroad enjoy LEX’s expressive and illustrative paintings. She displays in galleries and also creates commercial illustrations. She recently has been featured in Moon Milk Review and Edgycute available through Random House. LEX is also represented by Gallery Chiz in Pittsburgh, PA.
LEX Covato’s art is inspired by religious studies, traditional iconography, pop culture, classic children's stories, and psychology. Her work juxtaposes extremes in order to comment on society and bring about a laugh.
