Fashion print design project exploring the use of interesting and intriguing imagery on digitally engineered garments.
Inspired by the underestimated beauty of our natural world, my first textile print and garment collection aims to explore the alliances between the repulsive and the desirable. The ultimate goal of this collection is to examine closely the use of print and imagery on fashion garments, sharing the unexpected beauty of insects through trendy, quirky and innovative design.

MORE ABOUT ME AND MY PROJECT
Hello! Welcome to the Kick Starter page for my final project in completing my Masters in Multidisciplinary Design.
First, I would like to introduce myself, my name is Jenna and I'm from Massachusetts, currently studying abroad for my Masters. I completed my undergrad in Apparel Design with a minor in Art studio and my enthusiasm for fashion, design and travel sent me on an interesting (and expensive!) journey across the Atlantic Ocean to Belfast, Northern Ireland to further my education. Studying abroad has given me the opportunity to complete a Masters at a respected art school, at a more affordable price than Masters programs back in the states. I chose to study print and pattern design for fashion textiles with a goal of becoming a more educated, well rounded designer.
My Masters project has been focused on exploring the narratives our clothing can create about the people wearing them, and our relationships with our clothes. Weather or not you consider your self a follower of fashions, you consciously choose your wardrobe, exercising self expression. Within printed imagery on fashion textiles, I have chosen to explore the use of intriguing imagery within print design that invites the viewer to take a closer look. Using elements you would not normally find on clothing, my designs aim to recreate things society may normally find repulsive into something beautiful and acceptable, giving the subject of my prints a new appreciation.
MY FINAL PROJECT - TA DA!
Some of the new skills I've learned that I will be applying to my final project:
- The use of illustration in textile print design
- Editing my original artwork digitally
- Creating seamless repeats using Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator
- Designing interesting, fashion forward imagery for prints
- Hand screen printing methods
- Digital textile printing methods
- Designing digitally engineered flat pattern garments and print
My final project will consist of a collection of printed textiles on various fashion fabrics. This textile print collection is inspired by the often overlooked and under-appreciated world of creepy crawly insects. After researching humans relationships with insects throughout history, and the roles they can play as a part of our ecosystem, I've chosen some of our favorite bug buddies such as spiders, flies, maggots, locusts, and moths as inspiration. My print designs will interpret and feature these insects in a creative and beautiful way, transforming them into on trend, accessible designs.
The final collection will consist of roughly 7 garments, digitally engineered with my original prints. The use and placements of the prints on the garments will keep in the mind the female shape, and assist in flattering the body while making the garment look more complex and interesting!
My collection will be professionally photographed, displayed in a local store front in Belfast Northern Ireland called Pin.Up! A store for local designers to share their craft. It will also as be featured in a local fashion show.
