Afterglow, Occupations and the Future...
Hello everyone
Thank you so much for your support. The tour was a complete success.
After bicycling through Morocco and Western Sahara, researching desertification, I took the 3 day ferry ride to Genoa, Italy where I had planned to continue my journey onto Greenland to dogsled out to melting glaciers. However, I decided to end my trip early because there was something pulling at me mercilessly the last two weeks of traveling, the Occupy Wall Street movement in New York City. After 11 years of organizing for civil liberties, free speech, public space, education, arts and sustainable transportation, I witnessed from across the sea a new spark of revolution take hold in my own home and I could not bear to miss it.
I returned Oct. 6, bicycled from JKF airport and jumped right into the movement, working with environmental organization, Time's-Up! on providing a compost service for Zuccotti's kitchen, biking the food scraps to local community gardens and helping to mobilize bicycle-powered generators at the space. I have been in the streets, marching, dancing, creating soft blocks. I also have been helping organize direct actions for Bank Transfer Day, Occupy The Boardroom, Buy Nothing Day, and most recently I was one of the main organizers for the exciting Occupy Broadway, a 24 hour occupation of a privately-owned public space near Times Square with non-stop curated theater, dance and music performances.
It included acts from Mike Daisey, The Civilians, Great Small Works, The TEAM, Elevator Repair Service, Penny Arcade, Reno, NY Labor Chorus, Rev Billy and The Church of Stop Shopping, Yolanda Kay, Carlo Alban, The Yes Men, Bread and Puppet and many many more.
It was a huge success and helped to encourage more creative resistance at the forefront of the movement.

Along with organizing, I have continued to develop my latest play, The Wild Finish, with a new version which will premiere in New York City starting January 25th until February 11th at the historic artist squat ABC NO RIO. It is being produced by Polish Cultural Institute and Culture Project.
I am also writing a new play, inspired by the Revolution Ride bike tour, which I aim to have up and running by April or May of 2012. Look for it!
Thank you for making so much possible. I hope you will be able to join me at the theater. Many of you will be able to retrieve a free ticket!
Have a wonderful holiday season and a great new year! I look forward to when we meet again.
with gratitude,
Monica
