About this project
Just a taste of what is in store! Saturday, March 10th from 3 pm-midnight at the Russian Center on Capitol Hill.
In New York, every January they have a huge, all weekend long Balkan dance party called Golden Fest, With a four of stages and over 50 bands…I thought, why not here in Seattle?
Just in Seattle, we have dozens of bands from all over the Balkans-Dromeno, (Greece), Sinovi (Croatian), Tri Šešira, Orkestar Zirkonium (Romani [Gypsy] brass), Bucarest Drinking Team, Dunava (Balkan choral), Balkanarama, RTW, Dragi Spasovski (Macedonian), Kafana Republik, Dobro Veče and more and more...
We have the hall, we have more bands then we can handle ready to go, now we need your support to make it happen. In addition to handling this year's costs, we are already planning a bigger and better event next year and will need funds to keep it going. Nobody is getting paid, this is put together with all volunteer workers, from the musicians, to the sound people, to the clean-up crew!
So please, instead of that next mp3 download, or latte, consider contributing to help the first annual Balkan Night Northwest become a reality! Whether it's five dollars or fifty, everything helps and we will bring together all the balkan communities in Seattle for one big night of music and dancing! What do you get for helping? For contributions over 20 dollars you will receive a compilation CD featuring bands from the event, and for contributions over $40, you will get a limited edition, pristine, signed copy of the Balkan Night poster, along with the cd and free admission to the event. And thank you!
Ruth Hunter, Christos Govetas, Steve Ramsey and John Morovich (the organizers)

Boston has Balkan Night, featuring Balkan musicians from all over the East Coast, San Francisco has the Kolo Festival, New York has the Golden Festival, now grown to be a weekend-long orgy of Balkan music and dance, and now Seattle is entering the fray with the first annual Balkan Night Northwest. This year we are featuring local musicians from Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, Croatia, Greece, and more, along with home-grown Balkan bands for a powerhouse night of music and dancing! The planning committee is made up of people you know, Christos Govetas, Ruth Hunter, John Morovich and Steve Ramsey, all of whom are active in ethnic communities in Seattle. With a little financial help, we can make this year's event a success and move to a bigger venue so that we can bring in acts from all over the Northwest next year! Sponsored by Seattle Balkan Dancers and KBCS.
