Update #15: Happy Almost-New Year!
Hello EARTH CAMP ONE backers!
Remember the November 11 funding triumph that YOU made possible? Thank you for making 2011 the most exciting year -- for me as a filmmaker -- EVER. Why? Because it's the only time I ever asked friends, colleagues, strangers, and potential audiences to move a project along -- and YOU DID! Still reeling (pun intended) from the wonder of this.
What have I been doing so far, since November? I have been getting ORGANIZED -- getting my editorial advisors and producing team together, and getting my work space READY. All of this is, of course, an important part of the work.
It was a long summer and Fall -- making a video for Elton John's tour, and then going right into Kickstarter. Once the New Year happens, I'll be in touch with all of you to get you your rewards -- the earliest rewards (downloads, DVDs of already completed works) will arrive in January and February of 2012, and other rewards (such as t-shirts, animation stills, and the film and film poster itself) will come at different times, as they are ready. Thank you for your patience.
Three more things: first of all, I have personally and individually emailed my thanks to ALMOST all of you who backed EARTH CAMP ONE in October and November. At the campaign's end, you were pledging so FAST AND FURIOUS I couldn't keep up! So for the very few of you who didn't receive a one-on-one thanks, please accept, once again, my warmest and most sincere appreciation for getting involved. This is going to be the BEST EDITING YEAR EVER, thanks to you.
On a final note: One Kickstarter campaign I myself pledged to some weeks ago is RICKY ON LEACOCK. To anyone who loves film, or loves documentary, or who likes to get into the heads of how artists work and think, this looks to be a fantastic project. And the director Jane Weiner was also a backer of EARTH CAMP ONE! So if you're looking to make one last Kickstarter pledge in 2011, and have a few minutes, please consider taking a look. The project has FIVE MORE DAYS (till New Year's) to make its goal.

Last but not least:
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! Wishing you health and joy and love and beauty and adventure in 2012.
Jennie

Congratulations, Jennie. FYI: Whoopi Goldberg is an Ethical hero. I heard that she participated in the citizens' encampment program with ethical culture when she was young. Someday, I would like to ask her how it influenced her life and let her know how proud we in ethical culture are with how she has helped people to be better folks.

Update #12: 98% and rising
We are at 98% funded. And 3 backers away from 500!
We really do need that 2%. That's for sure.
ARE WE THERE YET?
WE ARE ALMOST THERE!!!
AND IF WE GOT THERE, WOULD YOU KEEP GOING? I'm not saying Earth Camp One should or could be like the Kickstarter Occupy Wall Street Media campaign which asked for 12 and got 75. Meeting the project goal will be near-miraculous. (WE ARE NOT THERE YET! UNTIL WE ARE AT 100%, THIS PROJECT CANNOT AND WILL NOT BE FUNDED) Just: do not feel that any topping-off would be the Tahiti vacation...this campaign is for the rough cut. Ahead is the fine cut, the tape to digital transfers, the completion of the animation, and the music. Just so you know.
But first...the two percent.
After which I am threatening to make a video in which I sing a song of thanks. Be afraid. Be very afraid.
THANK YOU AND KEEP IT UP!!!!!!!!!! YOU ARE AWESOME in both the sense of "that's awesome, dude!" and the sense of, you know, The Ten Commandments parting-of-the-Red- Sea awesome. That kind of awesome. You are that!

Update #11: GAH!!!!! WE ARE 89% FUNDED....with 25 hours to go!!!
My Dear Backers,
At 3 AM Theremina became Earth Camp One's 400th backer!!!! Now there are 444 of you and we just went up to 89% of the goal. This is SO EXCITING!!!!
CAN WE MAKE IT??? It seems IT WILL MOST LIKELY HAPPEN, doesn't it? I am AWED by the contributions all 444 of you have made, from $1 to $1500!!!
But we can't stop now!
I admit I stayed up all night writing emails. It was like a college all-nighter, except now we have the Internet, and I have a girlfriend AND a Labradoodle.
Watching this campaign grow is incredibly moving. In a time where there's still no US arts funding to speak of, when the film industry is shrinking, you are finding ways of letting filmmakers know (I mean some of you ARE filmmakers) you want to see works that don't fit the mold.
Can I tell you how I feel? (As you know, because you're supporting Earth Camp One, in part about a Northern California hippie summer camp called Earth Camp One, I grew up in the 1970s in California!!) I feel overwhelmed by your generosity. I feel awed by how you've ACTED on behalf of my film. And I feel like -- despite the fact that the very word "community" makes me want to go live in a secluded beach town by myself and talk to no one and watch Kurosawa films all day -- we have become one. A community. A supportive one.
THANK YOU! Please don't let up your increases and and ABSOLUTELY keep letting people know. Tell them we have 25 hours and if we don't make our goal the film loses all your pledges, because that IS the case. The last 11% in the coming 24 hours is not guaranteed: we have to get there. I believe we will.
My respect and gratitude!
Jennie

Connected as Jennie Livingston (1472 friends)
New York Magazine, in its 2008 40th anniversary issue “approval matrix,” called Jennie Livingston’s film Paris is Burning (1991) one of the most significant cultural works to come out of New York City in 40 years (please see link below). The film won a Sundance Grand Jury Prize and, is, according to Variety, one of the most-seen documentaries ever released. Livingston’s other films include the dramatic short Who’s the Top? (2005), which the LA Times called “witty and accomplished.” “Top?” was screened at over 130 film festivals worldwide, including theatrical runs at Boston’s MFA and London’s ICA; “Through the Ice” was commissioned for the WNET show Reel New York; it also screened at Sundance (2006); and, “Hotheads” (1994) was broadcast on MTV, and released on Polygram Video. This summer, Livingston directed a video for Elton John's stage show. And, she’s written an ensemble screenplay, Prenzlauer Berg, that’s being produced by Susan Stover (High Art). Jennie Livingston got her BA from Yale, where she won Yale’s Sudler Prize for her drawings and photographs.
Thanks Jenny for your support, it is very kind of you. Jane, three computer and I trying to give this campaign a last push and start the New Year with a Funding Successful ! Thank you for including us in your update !
I think you're going to make it and am crossing fingers and toes! You're the only film so far I have asked my backers to consider backing...and I probably won't do it again, but in the case of RICKY ON LEACOCK, I found the trailer so compelling and the idea of all that footage about a filmmaker who's so important really exciting.
