Kickstarter

Time is flying by here and I am down to my final week before my workshop with students from the university. This past week I presented to a sculpture class at UFG and was able to talk the majority of the presentation in Portuguese...I was practicing for next week. Here is a pic of me presenting. My presentation focused mostly on showing my past projects from Mica and since graduating. I began the presentation by briefly giving the students an overview of Mica and the structure of classes, workload, and variation in disciplines. I ended the presentation by inviting the students to the workshop in two weeks. It sounded like some of the students were interested. I showed some pictures of the material I am working with here....it is actually the bus tickets you use to travel around the city...they are everywhere! The students thought it was pretty funny when they saw I was using this material and made a few jokes about it. (It must be strange for Brazilians to see a gringo digging through the trash for bus tickets..)..but really I don't dig through the trash..I am fortunate enough to have made friends with the workers at the bus terminal and now when I come there..they have saved me tickets..ha ha

The pictures that follow are of my present work in my studio/bedroom with this material. The first is a collage I am making. I made some smaller versions and am now making a larger one. The second image is of small units I have been making that I will be combining to make one large form. Right now I am organizing them by color and shape to prepare to join them all together, hopefully later this week...I'll keep everyone posted on the progress later in the week!! Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I am missing everyone there and being with my family for the holidays!
