A loving couple's relationship is tested when they move in together and long-kept secret is revealed.
UPDATE: We have actors!
On Thursday, we cast our lead actors: the fantastically talented Štefan Cima and Karolina Komárková. Jess and I had the great pleasure of running lines with them this afternoon, and they're amazing! I'm so excited to work with them over the next couple weeks, and to see how their characters and performances evolve. Check back soon for pictures!
ABOUT Strange Love:
Strange Love tells the story of a loving couple whose relationship is challenged when they move in together and a long-kept secret begins to make itself known.
Since he was a teenager, Štěpán has suffered from compulsions that revolve around aesthetic perfection, sexuality, and death. Štěpán and Anežka have dealt with his sexual dysfunction for some time, but when stress brought on by moving in together manifests itself through her boyfriend's behavior, Anežka begins to doubt their relationship. At the same time, Štěpán struggles with guilt over his secrets and tries to build up the courage to confess.
When Anežka finds some of Štěpán's sketches and realizes what he has been fighting for so long, she is forced to make a decision. The result is a shocking, yet beautifully poetic and deeply romantic scene that will definitely stay with you.
Wes, Jessica, and I have the opportunity to make this incredible film - and to shoot it on 16mm! - through FAMU, the Czech national film school, where we are lucky enough to be studying for the semester. We are surrounded by mind-blowing amounts of talent and have access to fantastic resources, and we are unbelievably excited to be working on this film. We hope you'll be as excited about the opportunity as we are, and that you'll check back frequently to monitor our progress!
ABOUT THE FILMMAKERS:
Alex Schneider - Director, Editor
Ever since he was a boy, Alex wanted to be a photographer. Until he wanted to be a writer. Until he wanted to be a musician. Somehow, he happened on film, and as it seemed to incorporate everything he loved, he decided to stick with it. Now that he is a filmmaker, it seems like the most obvious choice in the world. Alex has completed two previous short films, worked as cinematographer and director for a sketch comedy television show, edited professionally for several documentary filmmakers, and makes a mean lasagna. He is currently a Junior at Washington University in St. Louis, studying Film Theory and Psychology.
Wesley Hunt - Director of Photography, Camera Operator
Wes is currently a MFA candidate at American University in Washington, DC. Although he is primarily focused on cinematography, he also enjoys production design, special effects, and makeup. For two consecutive years, he participated in a summer film program through Italy's University of Bologna, studying multimedia for cultural heritage. With over 10 years of experience, his work has screened at the Philadelphia Fest of Independents, the Eerie Horror Film Fest, and the Venice Film Meeting. He is excited and grateful to be filming in Prague in conjunction with FAMU.
Jessica Fagen - Screenwriter, First Assistant Director
Jess is currently a junior at Washington University in St. Louis studying Film Theory, English, and Creative Writing. She's been telling stories for as long as she can remember, whether it was writing full-blown fantasy sagas in her spare time in middle school or spending summers shooting movies with her neighborhood friends as a kid. A hobby turned into a concentration in undergrad, as she opted to shirk other (likely more practical) majors to pursue her passion for film and storytelling. Jessica is so excited to be spending this semester studying in Prague, a city with which she has fallen deeply in love. She is also immensely grateful for the opportunity to study at FAMU, where she can finally put her mostly theoretical film background into practice.

WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP:
After completing the first several drafts of our script, we realized we had come up with a wildly ambitious story that would require hard work, narrative dexterity, and - unfortunately - a decent amount of money to execute properly. That's where you come in. Our FAMU budget helps us cover three rolls of 16mm film, while leaving some money for actors and locations. The complexity of our film requires that we purchase a fourth, and our pursuit of quality demands that we transfer the film at the highest possible resolution. To do so, and to ensure that we can afford to give our actors and crew something other than stale crusts of bread and watery soup for lunch, we need your love, your support, and above all, your money. We are so incredibly excited to be making this film, and we want it to be perfect. Please, help us realize our vision. We're going to have a lot of fun along the way, and we'd love to have you along for the ride!
