Our theater troupe – Ars Mechanica – is mustering all of its forces to perform in Tuscany this July. Can you help us get there?

Ars Mechanica

We are Ars Mechanica, a young, hard-working, talented, passionate, and playful group of performers who believe that theatre in conjunction with all forms of new social, technological, and artistic media has a lot to teach us about life in the 21st century.

Show and Tell Alexander Bell

For the past year we have been working on our first project: an exploration of the possibilities of communicating in the absence of traditional modes of communication (as well as in the presence of an overwhelming abundance of new technologies) framed by the life and legacy of the Canadian inventor, Alexander Graham Bell.

Show and Tell Alexander Bell comes complete with live actors, operators, digital projections, music, prank calls, cellular spectator interaction, and stage illusions. The show’s team has two hot gals (a blonde and a redhead) and one hot dude onstage; an omniscient (yet humble) magician backstage, and an effervescent brunette who manages the stage with laser-beam precision from her lofty booth.

The CrisisArt Festival in Arezzo – Italy or Bust!

We are delighted to announce that Ars Mechanica and Show and Tell Alexander Bell has been invited to perform and participate in CrisisArt 2012.  This is a cutting-edge, five-day long theatre festival that takes place this July in Arezzo, Tuscany where we’ll be able to collaborate with other experimental theatre folks from around the world.  And though we’re thrilled by the opportunity to continue developing and refining our show in preparation for a North American run in 2013, we need big bucks to make it to Italy.

A donation of five bucks buys us a couple of coffees to wake up in the morning; ten bucks actually feeds one of the troupe members for a meal or two; and, of course, the larger donations will allow us to purchase the crucial airfare needed to travel between Canada and Italy (one cheap ticket = one thousand dollars, and there are five of us).  Every little bit of support counts and we appreciate all of it.  One way or another, we are committed to our love of theater, audiences, and each other.  That's why we cry out with joy and optimism: "Ars Mechanica -- Italy or Bust!"

Bell-e-gram: Telegrams are cool and rare. Bell-e-grams are even cooler and even more rare. At this donation level, the beautiful actresses of the Bell show will deliver a singing telegram to whomever you choose. The performance can be a sweet, sincere and diminutive; over-the-top and silly, or whatever you like. We have to limit the delivery of the Bell-e-gram to locations in the Greater Toronto Area, but we can send a recording of the event to wherever you are on the planet Earth. (Plus, you get all of the cool stuff already mentioned above).
