About this project

I self-published Dune Shack Summer last April and have sold over 400 copies. I have great faith that it can continue to succeed (and maybe even be picked up by a real publisher), but I have exhausted all of my resources. I've funded this entire project on my own. So far, I haven't made any money off of the book, but bookstores continue to want to carry it. However, because it's a self-published endeavor they'll only take it on consignment. Which means, I have to front those books. And then I only get 60% of the sales after that! So you can see why it's an expensive endeavor. Unfortunately, I don't have the resources to buy boxes of books to send to bookstores. Having the funds to do that would continue to help me succeed, expand my efforts, and hopefully sell more books! Therefore, it would mean so much to me to get some help.

For three weeks in August 2008 I lived alone in a rustic dune shack on the outermost tip of the Cape Cod National Seashore as part of an artist-in-residency. I had no electricity, no running water, no neighbors and no internet. The nearest inhabited area was a 45-minute trudge down the beach. Water was hand carried after being drawn up by hand pump from the well less than fifty yards away. Because of the fragile dune scape I had no mode of transportation; the closest paved road was a 30-minute trek through the dunes, up and over soft sand. The Atlantic was a hundred yards away with miles of deserted beaches. All I could hear was the rumbling surf, occasional fog-horn and the wind. Upon my return I wrote Dune Shack Summer chronicling my experience. The book was 80 pages with over 60 beautiful color reproductions of my photographs and paintings that were inspired by my stay. I published and sold over 400 copies and did not make a profit. Since then, I have had to raise the retail price and am now trying to fund $6000 to cover just the cost of reprinting it.

THE MONEY RAISED WILL GO TOWARDS:
-- High quality color printing and shipping of approximately 250 more copies.
If by chance I raise more then I will print more. I do get a price break on larger quantities. Basically, I'd like to get this book back on the shelves at the Cape Cod National Seashore Bookstores where it sold quite well.

HOW THE FUNDING WORKS:
To the right are a list of pledges you can make towards the project. For every amount listed there is a reward that comes with that amount. You pay now. The money is held by Kickstarter
until August 27. If the goal is reached, I will get the funds to pay for printing, and you will get the reward you paid for. If the goal is not reached, you will get reimbursed and there is no reward. Kickstarter is really a brilliant idea because it allows people to help on this project by contributing as little or as much as they desire and to be able to get something from the artist in return.
